Think I mentioned it in some other thread before, a good starting point is ADSL Guide which lists all current broadband providers and their services (incl. prices), reviews by users and links to the broadband companies.

I'm fed up with Tiscali now.  The calls all go out to their Indian call centre, which is fine, but seemingly because of this and the conglomo-size they have become, apparently none of their departments talk to each other!  They tried to word it so that it was advantageous to ME, saying that each department is so specialized that they can give individual care to your problem.

The only problem is, I've been thrown back and forth between 2 departments - technical support - the webpage seems to be the only place to upgrade broadband accounts - and billing - because all I want to do is take advantage of the new price, £15.99 intead of £19.99 for the same speed (512k).

I explained to them that I, as the customer, shouldn't have to call around chasing up each department, but they should talk to each other, after all, they are the same f***** company!  No, it's a billing change so I must contact Billing.  Billing says it's a technical support problem because the place to make the change is on the website.  What a bunch of crap.

So I've just signed up with Pipex which I've heard good things about, and they only have a 30 day contract, so if I don't like them I just pull the plug.  They also have a £14.99/month for 3 months deal on 1MB service switching to £23.44 after that.  If I'm lucky, later in the year prices will drop even more and I won't even have to pay the £23.44, at least not for long.  Unlimited access and no contract as well whcih I think why it's a bit higher than others.

I think I'm happy to pay a bit more to avoid locking into a contract now that I've experienced the bad side of technical support!
