My Eyes need special care
« on: April 27, 2005, 10:56:04 PM »
I guess i have been not really avoiding the issue, but i just .. it's just a hassle and  usually my parnts do this.
I am visually impared. I was born with congenital rubella. Basically i had caterats and they removed them when i was a baby. I am blind in my right eye, but have corrective ( contacts and glasses) in my left eye. I need a  doctor that is really good.  I dont know if NHS will cover that and that's okay but does anyone have an idea of a good doctor there. I shall research this,  but i thought i should put it here to.   Usually the doctors i go to are called " low vision" specialist.

:)

OH YEAH i also have a prostetic eye  do u think there i a doctor for that too?

just concerned

Hello Shala,

I can't recall where it is you said you'll be moving to here in the UK, but I can tell you that there is a very good eye hospital in London called Moorfields Eye Hospital.  I had to go there for some testing and treatment a couple years ago and they were absolutely fantastic.  I'm sure your GP will refer you there if you are coming to London.

Best of luck!

I went to Moorfields with a friend this winter.  It's very easy to find and the people were quite nice.  My friend was very nervous about having her eyes checked and the opthamologist was wonderful with her.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Moorfields is the place  to go alright.
I went there with a flare up of a condition that most ER's diagnos as conjuntivitis, but they got it right the first time.
All were very nice and they provided the drops I needed right there.

Hi Shala,

The guys above have given you excellent advice about Moorfields, but I am not sure if you are over here already? If so, are you registered Blind/Partially Sighted with your local authority? You need a referral from your GP to an Ophthalmologist who will then register you accordingly.

I ask because I work for the L.A who does this in my area and if you are registered (legally) "Blind" (sometimes referred to now as "severely sight impaired"- you would then be entitled to the services of your local sensory team,\(or rehab officer for visually impaired) who can help with all aspects of daily living/mobility/provide equipment if eligible/necessary.  A Blind/SSI registration also entitles you to a different tax rate and in most authorities free bus pass that kind of thing.

Let me know if you need any more info and I will be happy to find out for you.

Sheril.
