Wow! I just went to an NHS dentist for the 1st time (I had no idea that I could even find one the NHS after everything you see and hear on the news). Anyway, it was a terrific experience. The dentist was great....she was friendly and gentle and technology wise they even beat the Beverly Hills type dentist I used last year with my BUPA. She took some x-rays and to my suprise there was a computer screen right in front of the dental chair that I was sitting in and she showed me the x-rays and actually explained them. (Never had that before!). Interestingly, she said that one of my bottom teeth that has a large filling may need a crown but once she showed me the picture, she said...the tooth is fine so lets just watch it (unlike the Beverly Hills dentist who wanted to charge me £500+ to put a crown on..which he said was needed immediately! Which I didn't take him up on because I knew he was trying to rip me off. Ha!

Anyway, just thought I would give a positive plug to the NHS dental care!  :)

I am happy that I now have a great dentist that isn't trying to take me to the cleaners!

Jules: How long did it take you to get an appointment with your NHS dentist? We've been on a waiting list for about six months and are starting to consider going private...

Also, can you share the name of your fabulous dentist?

I love my UK dentist!  actually he's sweedish- he works in higham ferrars (sort of near northampton).

i changed dentists in the US a few years ago- and i went with the cheaper dental plan- cheaper dentist- i will never go to a cheap dentist again.  i ended up with one side of teeth being 3mm shorter than the other side.  this caused lots of problems.

my sweedish dentist isn't the cheapest- but about the same as i paid in annual premiums & copays in the US.
If you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.
