Yes, the blues number was good!  I never vote -- I just enjoy watching & seeing what kind of silly things happen, and Wogan of course!  I liked the Danish drag act -- did they make it through?  (Staying true to my Danish roots! :))

For any others watching for the first time:

1) Whoever wins, it has less to do with talent & more to do with politics.  The various regions tend to vote for each other, i.e., the Baltic countries vote for other Baltic countries, the Scandinavian countries vote for each other, Cyprus votes for Greece & vice versa...and of course, the UK gets nil points! :P

2) Abba was probably the most successful Eurovision act ever.  A lot of them you never hear anything about afterwards.  Are there any others that were successful?

The drag queen from Denmark didn't make it through.

I heard Celine Dion was a Eurovision winner but can't remember which country she sang for. I do so loathe her.  ;D

Cheese without calories? I'll take it!  :-*

I googled it & found this:  "In 1988, she represented Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest, which she won with the song Ne partez pas sans moi (Don't leave without me)."

I'll take Abba to Celine Dion any day!

I thought Celine Dion is Canadian?

She is.  And the lead singer of the band for Andorra this year is from Guildford, Surrey - so they said on the semi-finals program.

I really enjoyed it, until the votes starting coming in and I realised how political it is.  Its really sad actually.

Ukraine rock!!! Quite possibly the campest thing I have ever seen!!! :D
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I liked Ukraine, Hungary, Georgia, Finland and Sweden.  I really didn't like Serbia and probably woke up my neighbours everytime Ukraine would get points, in the hope they'd beat Serbia.  Sadly, it didn't happen.

I was so hoping that either Ukraine or Romania would win -- in keeping with the cheese factor!  Loved when the silver Ukrainian guy went dancing around the stage & smacked the big backup singers on the ars* - ha ha!! ;D

I fell asleep before all the votes were in... [smiley=sleeping2.gif]  Indeed!

The beeb had a good comment on the Serbian winners:  "At times, their routine resembled liturgical dancing. At others, it seemed to be a slow-motion lesbian porn film."  The latter did occur to me, but I wasn't quite sure how best to phrase it. ;)

Wogan was in good form & yes the French group did look awfully silly & awfully bad!

It's always good for laugh. :)

My fave comment of the night:  "The name of the song is [title, can't remember], translated as 'Talk to the Hand'"

And the female singer came out waving her hands around, then had some sort of light thing embedded in her palm...
Can't remember the country, but we were giggling through the whole song after that (though it wasn't a bad song).

I thought overall there were better, more legit singers overall... slightly less camp than before.  I also liked the French guys... running in circles in their Gaultier costumes.

<snigger>

We (Denis, flatmate Andy, and I) were VERY bummed that Serbia ran away with it. We were rooting for Russia, France or Turkey. I like Ukraine as well, but Andy's ex is Ukrainian so he was hoping that Russia would at least beat them.  ;)

The light in the hand was a bit odd....

I agree with this although in some instances, it made it sort of boring. There were a few singers that were just good enough to be considered *good* but not interesting enough to really stand out in that mix. Some of them were AWESOME.

I thought the UK entry looked quite weak compared to the video I had seen online. It didn't translate to stage very well I am afraid.  :-\\\\
