Taco Bell in the UK??
« on: August 24, 2003, 12:40:19 PM »
Other day at work one of my co workers said that her brother had just come back from a visit to the US and fell in love with Taco Bell. So he thought about contacting Taco Bell and inquire about opening up a Taco Bell here in NI. She asked me if l thought it would go over well here!

My response was---Heck ya it would!! NI would be over run with Americans from all over the UK!! lol

Let's see, Taco Bell, Cracker Barrel, Red Lobster, White Castle (yeah, l know  ;)), TARGET, Walmart those would be a good start!

Trish, I cannot believe you just wrote this! I was just thinking about a dream I had last night. That I was going into a mall-type building and saw a sign there for Taco Bell. I was going to start a thread about Taco Bell, saying that one must be coming soon because I had a dream about the first one here!

I looked into it, not because I wanted to open one myself, but because I wanted to know why they disappeared and if they were coming back. Taco Bell in the UK can be done, just that they have a two-store miniumum. sure puts the dampers on. Even in a pipe dream I'd start one up, but don't think I have the gumption for two.

I do think the time is getting right for one. I see a lot of restaurants offering Tex-Mex meals. Seems to be the start of a next food craze. (Look at how many mainstream places offer tortilla shell wraps and fajitas.)

Where would you put it?

To be perfectly honest...and I know we'd be nuts...but it's not out of the realm of possibility that my husband and I would open a Taco Bell (but just one). The whole stumbling block would be that we'd want it close to us. Problem is, we're not in a location that makes such a thing viable. It's a doable dream, but I'd also want to get back my investment. And that is the bit that wouldn't be doable.

Location. Location. Location.

Being in the retail property business I have it on good authority that Yum! Brands Inc (who own Taco Bell, KFC & Pizza Hut to name a few) are looking to bring Taco Bell over the ocean. I'd say it'll happen within the next 2 years or so.

Edit: I found this on their international site:

16. Does YRI plan to franchise Taco Bell outside the US?

Taco Bell is present in a number of countries outside the US. We are, however, focusing our initial Taco Bell development initiatives on a few select countries before considering expansion. Further enquiries should be made to the YRI Franchise Centre for the region in which you are interested.

They may be owned by the same parent company, but trust me, Asda does not equal Walmart.

BTW, hubby just said there used to be a Taco Bell in Earl's Court, about 5 or 6 years -- possibly longer.

What is WRONG with you people?!?!   :o

How dare you post in this thread without having SOLID news of a Taco Bell opening somewhere in the UK (preferable Newcastle)???   :o

Have you no mercy?  ;)

And, no ASDA doesn't compare to Walmart!   :-\\\\
