False, sadly. My 4th grade teacher turned it into a popularity contest by drawing a circle on the chalkboard, putting 0 - 12 in random order, then choosing someone to do their time tables. That kid then picked the next person, but the teacher only did it for a set amount of time each time, and not everyone got a turn. Being the chunky, shy kid, I wasn't one of the first picked unless one of my friends was picked. When everyone else was finished, or already on their 11s and 12s, the teacher made a big production of pointing out how I was only on my 4s and humiliated me. When I tried to point out it wasn't that I didn't KNOW them, it was that I didn't get a chance to get up and DO them. I more or less gave up on the whole math thing that year. In high school I still had such bad feelings about the whole subject I only took the general math subjects.
Since then, I have thought about getting better with it, but have never taken the time.
