Thanks, Kristi! Your words were very comforting, even if I still had my doubts.  I just bought my plane tickets!!  Whew, that was uncomfortable--NON REFUNDABLE, of course.  But it still makes me uneasy to spend that much money on something so far in advance, that any little thing could change the ticket and we'd lose our money.....  I know I'm just being paranoid.  Now we're REALLY going, as if we weren't before or something..

Thanks, guys, for all your help and support!  Hopefully we can all meet up across the pond! :)

maramallow,

Do you mean that they processed your application and returned your documents in 2 days? Or do you just know that you are approved?

I am just wondering because I FedEx-ed my application Friday (due to arrive this morning). I have heard from my school that visa applications take 2-13 weeks by post- and I need to arrive in August!

(Can someone explain how e-fastrack only allows you to apply a month before departure, but it may take 13 weeks to process  ???)

Either way, congratulations! I'm so glad it worked out for you :).

Let's take our wigs off in the shopi aisle and fight it out.

Sprigged,

If your situation was anything like mine, then NEVER FEAR!!  Hopefully it will be as easy for you as it was for me(and maybe if I explain my situation now, I can eliminate a lot of worrying on your part! :))

Here's my deal:

Hub's school begins 19th Sept, therefore we couldn't apply for the visas until 19th June--a Sunday.

I applied via the fasttrack on 20th June, around midnight.  The next day(Mon, 20th June) we went to the bank to get our most recent bank statements to include with the application the I had already prepared.  Part of that app was the fasttrack visa dept apps that I had printed the night before to which we attached our photos.  So by the time we had done all of this prep work, it was around 3:00.  We went to our neighborhood Fedex and sent it Extreme Overnight, or whatever--the fastest one.  It was delivered to LA 10:15 Tues, 21st June.  Then we waited.

Friday 24th, we received a "sorry we missed you" note from Fedex, saying we could pick up our package at the Fedex home office.  I picked up the package of what I thought was just the important documents that I had sent.  I thought they sent the marriage cert. and passports back for safe keeping and would be sending the visas at a later date.  Lo and behold, I called the visa dept today and found out that the visas were pasted in our passports all along.... [smiley=blush.gif

So to sum up:
20/06--sent apps(from Austin, TX)
21/06--apps arrive(in LA)
22/06--apps processed and visas posted
24/06--visas arrive(in Austin, TX)
25/06--Samara picks up package, wonders when visas will arrive
27/06--Samara pulls her head out of her a** and finds the visas, which have been in her dad's fireproof box since 25/06

Sorry that's long-winded, I hope it helps!!  BTW, I never received an email saying the visas were on their way--that probably was part of my confusion as to where the visas were.  But I guess they just processed the visas so fast they thought it wasn't necessary.

Good luck, Sprigged!  Keep us posted!

The International advisor at my latest school said it takes 13 weeks for some countries, like Pakistan, but only 2 weeks for the US.  The range is 2-13 weeks overall.

Sprigged...did you include return postage? I didn't and they had to call me to get my visa number for the charge. I felt like such an idiot!

I paid over the internet with e-fasttrack, so I suppose they just chrarged it to me  ???

I did not intentionally include it; perhaps it was included with the fasttrack fee? I'm not really sure, to be honest. :)

Yeah, if you applied by fasttrack, and you paid an extra 12 dollars, then you paid postage.  It was $72 for the student visa fee, then $12 for the postage.  (Mine was $150 >:( but at least we didn't have to pay 2 postages because we sent them both at the same time :))

And they send it back by Fedex, which I thought was very nice...

Im starting my Masters in London in the fall.  Thus far, I have only filled out my online application, and have done so for my wife.  She would like to get a work-permit, and from what I have read in this thread, it seems that this should be no problem since I will be a FT student.

I have set up an interview at the NYC consulate for next week, should I take all documentation there that a person would normally send in?  Are there any special things I should look out for since I am trying to get my wife a work-permit to allow FT work?
