The "Are You (insert nationality here)" Question
« on: June 18, 2005, 09:19:55 PM »
Today I got asked by a customer (English, mind you) if I was Irish!  I'm collecting places to be from now.  I've gotten asked if I'm Australian, Canadian (I get that one a lot!), and Welsh ( ??? LOL)!  Of course I get asked if I'm American quite a bit, too.  But, I just find it funny the more I'm here the more I get asked if I'm from somewhere other than the States.

So, I was wondering if anyone else had been asked if they were - or assumed they were - from somewhere other than the States?  If so, where?  Share, share!
I was born in the Summer and at Night...my mother named me AUTUMN DAWN.  True story.

Jamie's...beyond the stars and past eternity.

EMAIL or PM me for information about gigs or about booking me (solo gig) or the band.

But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

I get Canadian all the time -- in England, in Scotland, and my favorite -- at home here in NY.

Irish and Canadian, mostly.

A client phoned me at my work to complain about the air conditioning being too cold, and when i asked  his name, he said 'Nanook of the North'... then chuckled and said, 'you Canadians will know all about Nanuk of the North'... i just chuckled back and said yes.   While i was writing up the job for him, he continued to prattle on about how he can always tell the difference between and American and a Canadian accent, and how he has spent a lot of time in Canada, so he can definitely hear it.  I just kept going, yep, uh-huh, etc.

Didnt want to burst his bubble, but i lived in California for the 1st 23 years of my life!

Spanish.  I get asked if I'm Spanish all the time or addressed in Spanish by Spaniards seeking directions.  I answer them . . . in Mexican Spanish.

I've gotten Italian a couple of times, and French a few times.

I get Canadian constantly. I've gotten Irish from time to time as well, but usually it's Canadian.

English - while home visiting in the USA!!  ;D ::)

The usual suspects here: Canadian & Irish
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Oh, and German.  I always get approached by Germans wanting directions, especially in Europe.   :)

Hmmm, I don't remember anyone ever thinking I was anything but American, but they usually just say where are you from rather then where in BLANK are you from.

That's because you practically have 'I'm American' stamped on your forehead.   ;)
