US/UK Magazines
« on: July 05, 2005, 02:31:14 PM »
Hope I can put this here mods?

I wondered if anyone is interested in setting up a UK/US magazine swap with me when I go back to the U.S?  I will miss my dose of "OK" and "Marie Claire", even "Now" and thought someone here might like to do the occasional swap with me - I will be subscribing to all the women's magazines out there again (yay, the $15 subscription rates :D

Don't want to make it into a chore or expensive for anyone, just the occasional swap.

Not wanting to put any kind of damper on this, as I am currently swapping with Marlespo but just wanted to make you guys aware that it can become costly. I ship two OK mags every two weeks and pay about £14 to ship them to the US.

Just letting you guys know. It's well worth it, though. I love getting my People magazine.  ;D

No problem- I understand (good to know cos that is expensive) which is why I did put I don't want it to become too expensive for anyone. I remember in the States the mags were very cheap to buy, but the postage wasn't so cheap.

Is that "printed matter" rate, Ashley (rolled up with a label on it)?

I would be willing to swap.  I get Cottage Home, Better Homes and Gardens, and Country Home.  Not the chick mags, only home stuff.  And if someone is interested and can wait a few months, I'll have Simon take them back with him in September and ship them from Sheffield.

EDIT - I should have added that I would love to exchange the same type of magazines - home decorating stuff mostly.  :)

No, just regular printed paper rate.

How big are these magazines you're sending, Ashley?? £14 is a lot! I send a ton of stuff to the US -- just last week was a big box full of heavy-ish birthday presents for a friend and her daughter and it only cost me about £8 for that. I can't imagine magazines would be more!

I was just thinking that myself and remembered that if the package is enclosed and you "declare" a letter or something inside I am sure the rate goes up. 2 OK magazines (well, they do have the 2 mags inside them so technically that's 2 OK magazines and 2 smaller magazines) but still surprised (and annoyed!) that costs you £14
