Hi....I  just accepted a post in Birmingham.  :o I want to live outside all the hub bub of the second largest city in England.  Is there any agency I can contact to get me information and guide me to all the details of moving.  I am moving myself and since I will be working in the NHS, will be paying for the move myself.  Anyone on the board live there?

I live here and will be happy to give any help I can.Brum covers a huge area and it would help to know which areas you are thinking of moving to/working in.

I have a fiance coming in at the end of this month to settle in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham, where her man owns a house.  I've never been to that neighborhood, but it's clear that it's got to be super posh...

we just moved to Birmingham and my husband is working with NHS.  I have been helping some of the other 11 american families that were hired for this job to get settled.  The best place to start looking is a website with all the letting agents listed...www.ukpropertyshop.co.uk  - this is good for anywhere in England - you just put a post code or city and then all the companies pop up and then you can look at each one individually and see what's available.  I don't know that I would let (rent) without being here and looking at them.  We found you can't judge a book by it's cover - or what's inside these places by the outside of the building.  But this is a good start - good luck.

Hey UKsmartblonde, I live in Birmingham too now.  Where is your job located?  It will be a little easier to see where you should look around then.  I wouldn't want you traveling across all of Birmingham to get to work if you don't have to.  But anyway, good luck on coming over.

I will move to Birmingham next year too.  My concern is that I will move with my teenage
kids and I would like to know a good place to live with kids because I am concerned about the crime level in Birmingham.  If you could reply with some advice, of somewhere which is safe and not too expensive, with good secondary schools.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, we are looking to possible move to the Birmingham area when we move at the end of the year. Currently we are looking at just south east of the actual city of birmingham. Is this nice? anyone live near there? how are the schools. My kids are not yet school age, but it might be good to look at that now. I am thinking about homeschooling them though. Anyone know of any kind of help with homeschooling in the UK?

Now, we are two searching for a good place to live in Birmingham! . It doesn't look easy at all. I heard that good schools are in expensive zones. I hope I'll find a good school for my two teenage kids even if I have to work hard and pay a lot in rent.

We live in Solihull, just a few miles away from Birmingham, it's beautiful here, and the country farming areas are just around the corner...so it only takes a few minutes to get 'outta the city'.

DF's brother lives on the north side & DF, for some reason, seems to think it's a bit of a pit.  :-\\\\

oops!!! For me it's very difficult thinking about a particular area. I'm thinking about renting a short term apartment while I learm more about the city and after deciding what to do. My mayor concern are the schools and security. First 6 month I goint to live with my daughter and my husband and son will move after he finishes his work in USA and has sent all my stuff to  the Uk. That is the reason that i'm very worried about find a good location.

Thanks niku2 I will search for other areas.
