What is American wedding cake called in the UK?
« on: July 15, 2005, 07:38:18 PM »
I am trying to tell my MIL about he most wonderful cake I had this past weekend at my cousins wedding. She doesn't understand just cake and frosting. I am not sure what I have to say to let her know what in the UK you can compare it to. Any help would be great! Thanks.

Normally I don't do this   ::)

But just to mention that the traditional wedding cake - tiers and what-not - has its origins to resemble the architectural design of Saint Brides Church on Fleet Street.

It's an old church.  Besides being the model for the wedding cake embraced by Western Civilization, it's other claim to fame is that the parents of Virginia Dare were married there.  Virginia Dare is arguably the very first American citizen ever.

Like I say, normally I don't do this  ::)  But with the thread screaming for a comment, like HUH?, well, ok.  Just this once...

Trivia:  Central London has another old church where an American President got married.  Can you name it?

That's enough!  Stop me next time.   ::)

Keep doing it!  I just did a quick Google image search... learn something new every day.

As for the president, I'm guessing John Q. Adams?
