Im a bit confused , are you saying u met her online June 19,2005 OR that she came here to the UK on June 19,2005. Best thing I can tell you is, deal with this now, dont not deal with it and hope it will go away because it wont. The longer you dont deal with it, the more trouble you will be in. You are also getting in trouble as well, not just her.

Will i be allowed entry to the states now i have this on my criminal record (also 2 cases of drunk and disordely)?

I hate to hand you even more bad news, but US immigration just sent my husband's brother home (denied him entry even though he was on holiday and had a return ticket) because of a 30 year old criminal conviction.

Anne, was that because he went under the visa waiver? If he applied for a visa it might be different.

Yes, I think you're probably right, Liz! I haven't seen this brother since he's been back, so I don't know for sure, but I'll bet he didn't bother 'cause he figured it was so long ago that no one would ever have an issue with it. Very, very wrong. It's actually quite a complicated story - he was there with his other brother to chaperone their two young neices who didn't want to travel alone to a friend's wedding. The first brother was refused entry and the second brother was later pulled up because they recognized his surname as being the same as the first brother. The second brother explained why they were there and apparently immigration decided that they could both stay, given the circumstances, but by then it was too late and brother 1 was already on a plane back to the UK!!  ::)

Sorry for the hijack. But I think Liz is probably right - applying for a visa in advance of a trip might allow you to still travel to the US! Sorry I didn't think of that!!!

WOW, thats a bit harsh and a 30 year old conviction, surprised he even remembered he had it.  I know several people who have travelled into the US with minor/medium offences and have never been pulled.  Is it luck of the draw or does it depend if you have served time?

Customs?

It depends on their mood that day. You could be a person that has served time or not.

I onced walked into Heathrow with my husband--I was asked:

"Who are you traveling with?"

I said:
"Bond."
"James Bond."

The customs officer slid us through, he was laughing his a$$ off. My husband is a James Bond type, and I'm a James Bond girl.

Holy. I always say: "You are looking at my underwear."

A person with a record is a crap shoot. Yet, always pull the underwear knuckle. On advice.

Immigration?

These brothers are being stopped for reasons. Most of the time you have to pull a joke. It's never as crazy as you think.

Good that you got passed through.

Get out of the Nut House.

seagoddess...that is too funny, I don't think I could ever pull that off though!  I'd be too nervous, but I always smile and stuff and that gets me through, specifically when I came as a fiancee in March but was only visiting for a week and I forgot that this might be suspicious to the customs agent since I didn't have my fiance visa, but I was only on break from school and he let me through, but did tell me next time I have to be sure to have my fiancee visa for entry.

well I am going to add my 2 cents worth at the risk of being maligned again for being a travel agent... :-[.but here goes..

if for any reason including being convicted of a traffic violation.. as in having been taken to court and found guilty of any violation...you must get a visa from the USA embassy......if it is a old conviction you can go through the right channels and have it asponged off of your record as long as it isn't anything like murder or rape..some like a driving violation....I sold a client a holiday to Orlando and he came back a month later and said he had been arrested and convicted of a drug charge..(pot).7 yrs before..we called the embassy on their .50 pence a minute number ..and he needed a visa..so off to London he went.....but each case is individual and must be evaluated on it's own merit.

so there ya go.

I hope you're not seriously suggesting someone go thru immigration with such a brazen attitude.  IOs have a job to do and practicing your stand-up routine might get you denied entry.  And customs and passport control aren't the same thing.  Most people don't deal with customs officers unless they have their bags searched.  Everyone deals with IOs.  People are detained for reasons, like not having proper entry clearance or if you do something to make an IO suspicious of attempted settlement without a visa.

I find it rather irresponsible to suggest someone try to joke their way through immigration.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Well said -- after the events of recent years -- one hopes that people would have RESPECT and deal with air travel (and all travel now ) with a sense of personal responsibility.

I have to agree with this, it's such a serious situation and If I were a C.O, someone behaving that way would put me in an instant bad mood that's not because I don't have a sense of humour, just that it is not the time nor place to be humerous. Honesty and manners are all thats required at this stage.

I was on a flight once and some bright spark decided to joke with Immigration about having "coke" in their baggage, when he tried to say it was a joke and told them to "lighten up" ,he was told in no uncertain terms that such humour was not funny and not tolerated, then he was hauled him off.

Sounds like the kind of guy who would joke about being asked to carry a package wrapped in plain brown paper by a guy who had crazy eyes.

Joking around while going through passport control is a one-way ticket to being detained.  I answer the questions I'm asked and that's it.  No cracking jokes, just hand over my passport and landing card or anything else they ask for.  I take getting into the country quite seriously, as I don't want to be sent back to the US, especially after a 10 hour flight.
