Us girl moving to scotland for school
« on: September 12, 2003, 09:23:49 PM »
Hi I have a question about taxes and what I am supposed to do with filing etc..
I worked part time in America before moving to scotland, and I know I will have to file to collect money back. Can I go somewhere in the Uk to have someone help me file my us taxes?
Also,I will probably be getting a part time job in the Uk, meaning I will have to do those taxes as well. What is that tax system like? Do you get anything back like in the states?

Hi there

You will have ongoing US filing requirement if you earn (in the US or overseas) over and above you standard deduction during each calendar year.  If you expect a refund from the IRS, you can file your return and claim this back.  I will be able to help you with the preparation of your return if you wish.

The UK tax year is from 6 April one year to 5 April the next. The way UK taxes you depends on your residency postion etc.  I will not go over all the rules here, but you can call me on 0208 466 9297 and I will explain them.

Best regards
Helen
