The healthy foods you can't live without
« on: July 20, 2005, 06:09:22 PM »
So what are some of the foods since you started on your healthy lifestyle that you just can't live without.

Mines are: hummus with wholemeal pita bread, ofc lots and lots of mulletlites, blue dragon sauce packets and sharwood egg noodles.

Skim milk.  Simon thinks it's vile, but I just love it!  I used to drink 2% until I lived with my Dad for awhile and skim is all they drink so I learned to like it.  Now I can't even think of drinking anything heavier.  (by ex called it "blue milk" because it's so "non-white")

I have switched to a high calcium program, I lost over a stone in the last month just adding more dairy to my diet (with ww and exercie ofc but the other months I only lost 4-8lbs a month). I add 2 cups of skim a day, more yogurt and cottage cheese yum

I agree with hummus for sure - love love love it! And avocados. I know they're high fat, but it's GOOD fat. A bit of low-fat hummus, a slice of avocado and a whole wheat pita. Heaven.

Waitrose extra-lean sausages. I do love a good sausage, but they're SO bad for you. This way I can still have them now and again....

No-sugar-added Alpen with a bit of splenda and low-fat milk. I'm usually a toast sort of a gal in the morning, and most "healthy" cereals leave me cold, but I've really come to love Alpen.

Ooh I love hummous and wholemeal pita! Hummous seems more fattening over here so I tend to avoid it though.

Skim milk
Fresh fruit (I eat sooo much every day)
Wholegrain bread
Bugsy organic sandwiches
Organic yoghurt
Green tea!
Plans on hold 'cuz Brexit

Rice Cakes

No way!!  :o I have never been able to eat rice cakes - they taste like packing material to me.  Do you buy the flavored ones, or put stuff on them?

LOL!  I know I'd ruffle feathers!  Rice cake lovers are very loyal.   :)  I have tried the caramel kind and they are OK - now peanut butter on just about anything is good!!!  (butter on anything is ok with me too!!)

low fat soy milk
raisin bran
rice cakes-yummy and crunchy
Boca veggie sausages and burgers
Quorn tenders
fruit
fresh veg., especially sugar snap peas, broccoli and grape tomatoes
freshly grated parmesan cheese-high in fat buy so flavorful that a little goes a long way

granola w a bit of yogurt on it
skimmed milk
tuna
salmon
well, any fish really as long as it's not deep fried
sugar snap peas

and my husband has been making the best and spiciest thai soups (not the coconut ones) - so good!

Augie - are you finding Boca burgers here in the UK or is that strictly a back home thing. I miss Boca.
