Easier to diet with a job or without?
« on: July 27, 2005, 02:41:40 PM »
I keep debating this one in my head. When I was at home with my kids, I seemed to do all right, always keeping busy to avoid food, although I did have the constant battle of the boys' biscuit tin.... ::)

At work though, I am finding that if I keep busy enough, it's gone 1.00 before I think about eating my salad and fruit.  However, there is always someone's damn birthday to contend with and I am also allowed into the special chocolate biscuit tin that the Head keeps..and sometimes that tin calls to me when I would far prefer that it didn't!

And there's nothing WORSE than being caught eating something decadent by a fellow co-worker!   >:(

I find it easier without a job to exercise and eat better. Right now I am working nights for the summer so have all day to exercise, though I also have all day to snack lol good thing I have nothing good in the house to snack on  ;)

I always thought it would be work, but like you said always someone's birthday or in our office a woman who home bakes "just because"...... and my job bores me to tears so when I need a distraction of have a fake hunger attack there is always something there.

At home, I am finding it easier, if I dont have it, I cant eat it.

I am not near a shop, I haven't been able to walk much and if I stay busy, even endlessly on the computer, reading, cleaning etc I don't think about food until I see some idiot on here started a "what are you craving thread"

When I was at American Airlines I was so busy my entire shift I wouldnt even have time to take my break! I always had a cup of coffee with me but rarely had time to eat. I must have dropped 20lbs!
I dont have a problem noshing since Im a stay at home mom now. I find it more difficult however to make time for exercise. :-\\\\

I definitely do better with a job.  I'm fine at work, but it's summer and I've turned into Mrs. Crisp-fiend.

You have lots of boys to chase around though, which in itself is exercise! My little one is not here all of the time during the day so makes it easier to find time, and he actually is entertained by doing my Pilates tape with me now and then. Makes the whole thing a blast, but thank goodness no one can see us  ;D

What a good question. I think for the most part it's easier for me when I have a job.... When I'm home it's easier to have bigger lunches and snack. Also, when I'm not working, we've got NO disposable income, so we can't afford a gym. Whenever I've had a full-time job I've always used a bit of my salary for a gym membership.... And for some reason I'm really un-motivated when I'm at home - maybe it's because I'm a bit depressed over the job thing - and find it really hard to force myself to go out and take a walk, but when I'm working I HAVE to walk - to and from the train, out to run errands at lunchtime, etc.

For me it's easier at work. On my days off I must force myself to stay out of the kitchen. Sometimes I just have to leave the flat entirely to avoid eating. If I didn't have a job I would be as big as the side of a house.

The birthday biscuits and chocolates aren't hard for me to resist. Most of the time they are ones I don't particularly care for, and more often than not they contain loads of dairy, which I don't eat. So that isn't a problem, usually. It's the odd choccie on certain days of the month...and by odd, I mean odd-numbered, like 37!

I'm finding work harder... I'm knackered when I get home so don't want to exercise. There's no where to walk around the office. And there are tons of b'days and treat days that make it even harder. It's really getting me down. :(
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
