I wanted to name my last son Ozzy. Not because of Ozzy Osbourne but I thought it would be a cute name for a little boy. My husband wasnt having it so we just named him Jack. "Just Jack"  ;)

Someday Jack will thank your husband for his sensibility!  ;)

On the other hand, Ozzy sounds a terrific name for Leah's new kitty!

Growing up, I had always had my heart set on having girls, and one would be named Holly Shay, after a little girl I knew when I was about 8, who died when she was 5 from some mysterious desease.  But when I did get pregnant, my husband didn't like that name, so we settled on Tristen Elyse. He wanted the name Kristen, but I didn't want her to be one of 10 Kristen's in her grade at school, so I kicked the 'K' off, put a 'T' in front, since my name began with a T. I didn't think about the 'Tristan and Isolde' thing at the time, lol.  She gets called Tris or Trissy by friends, gets called Tribug by me, or  just TristenElyse (all one word) when she is in trouble,,lol.

Daughter @ is Danielle Nicole. She gets called Danickie alot at home,,lol

fergal or fergus is nice for a bloke or ni fearghusa as a middle name for a girl, since i'm a ferguson (not for much longer).

daithi is nice for a boy, as well. so is tadgh, which i ganked from "the field." and not just because sean bean is a fox.

it's not where you're born, it's where you belong

Reminds me of reading the Ramona Quimby books when I was little - she thought the most beautiful name in the world was Chevrolet.  ;D

We are going to name our daughter Courtney Aeryn

I got the spelling of Aeryn from the tv show farscape, I noticed how the name was spelled and loved it right away

Ní Fearghusa - the ní means 'daughter of' but is used in the sense of a last name. So your daughter would be -Name- Ní Fearghusa -Last Name-....hmmm I am trying to work out how it would work. I mean, you can name your kid whatever you like (see the other thread for more creative examples), but I am just thinking of how it works within the language, i.e., I don't think you would use the 'ní' at all, it's more of a standard indicator/prefix. Like if you had a daughter and a son and your last name was Ferguson, your daughter would be Daughter Ní Fhearghusa and your son would be Son Ó Fearghusa. You wouldn't name them as such, but if you were using the language that is how they would be known in the language, if that makes sense.

It's interesting to work out, I am not sure how the convention would apply as a middle name. Obviously, you can name your child whichever way, and it does sound pretty. Just something to keep in mind to check one day, I suppose, if you want to keep things in keeping with the language's conventions.

There is a cute baby competition in our local paper at the moment and some of the names are quite strange.  The best one I have come across so far is a girl called Ylishia Bubb.

If that was my surname I'm not sure if I could resist the temptation to name my child Beelze !!

My sister's baby is due TOMORROW and they still haven't come up w/a name for the little guy.  I was at her house last night when she was asking her oldest son (age 5) if HE had any thoughts on what they should call the baby.

Being five, he of course had an idea - "Spiderman".  He wants to call his baby brother "Spiderman".  Fiona managed to keep a straight face and told him thanks for his input and that she would certainly take that suggestion into consideration.  After she left the room, I told Robert that people might confuse his baby brother with the REAL Spiderman if he shared that name....he said "You're probably right.  How about 'Hulk' instead?"  ;D ;D ;D
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

I always liked the name Skyler for a little girl and I think I want to name my future daughter that. Her name would sound absolutely wonderful with husband's last name!

I kinda like the name Sonia too. Or Sonya.

I used to want Damien for a boy but the more I think about it, the less I like it  :-\\\\ .

I always liked Summer Rain, or Autumn Rain for a girl, growing up in southern california, rain was a concept!! I also liked Dashiel Tate for a boy, Dashiel, because, I am ashamed to admit this, but it had to do with a magnum p.i. show.....I had a HUGE crush on Tom Selleck, and tate because it is an old family name. However, my son is named Zadeer, and when people ask again how it's sounded, I just say, Oh! Like when you say....he's a dear!
