Anyone ever denied for spousal visa??
« on: August 04, 2005, 06:40:10 PM »
Hi all !

Just wondering......been reading all of the posts........havent seen anything about anyone ever being denied for a spousal visa to the UK. My application is being taken to NY consulate in the a.m. by a facilitor.....and even though I have sent them EVERYTHING imaginable and I have never even had a speeding ticket.......I am stressing! FEDEX guy laughed and asked me if I wanted to put it all in a FEDEX box instead of a packet ......cost me $68.00............. It was HUGE!!!!!!!!! Have worried about everything.......triple checked everything. My 2 pics look like an axe murderer! Incredible! They have posters of these smiling people on their passport picture advertisements......and I asked the postal lady if anyone EVER looks like that...... ;D She said never. All look like poster children for teeth whitening strips or something LOL and me looking like a Charles Manson groupie !?!?! I know I worry way too much.......just trying to "get my head around" all this !!! ;) Thanks x

Stay calm.  :)  I think it's very rare to be denied.  If you have all your ducks in a row you should be fine.  Good luck.

YOU are totally funny!!!!!

I will be freaking out over the same things - squeeky clean record, but I'll still be a total blubbering mess till I get that visa in my hands.

Welcome to UKY by the way!  :)

...havent seen anything about anyone ever being denied for a spousal visa to the UK.

Last year the North American desk refused 43 applications, or roughly 1 out of every 120 applicants.  Of those refused, the largest chunk was visa nationals and then those who were illegal in the US in the first instance.  Then you have your basic gamut of felons, drug-dealers, prostitutes, and on down the line.   The refusal rate for North America doesn't even reach 1%, compared to places where the refusal rate reaches 45% or more.

There isn't a single case where a legitimate (conviction-free) US/UK couple has been refused, even tho' some SHOULD have been refused on financial grounds because other desks are refusing comparable applications.  But they REALLY AND REALLY do not like to refuse on the North American desk.  Reading between the lines, there's a big advantage to being a WASP.

So the basic concept is to make the best app you can, as complete and as strong as you can, and then not to worry about it.  Applying successfully is really not a big deal.

Er, not all North Americans who apply for UK visas are WASPs.

Thanks Garry, That makes me fill a bit better....I think that I did the best that I could with the application. Although I have to say I am a little disappointed with the UK embassy website. They dont really update. Once you fill out the application (diff website), the list has several different things that they require that are not on the Embassy site.
Also, when they change things such as now not accepting copies of the UK spouses passport, they dont add that. I called, a few weeks ago to see if we could send a notarized copy and they said yes, then surfing online I ran across info where it said that you couldnt, so I called again, and apparently they changed alot of the rules etc on 7/7/05. I think there needs to be a set list of things that are required, and they need to update the site & visa site. Thats enough to drive someone insane.......in an already stressful situation......getting 3 different answers from 3 different sources. (Visa site, 900 #, Embassy site) Anyway, my husband just fedex'd his passport in the end, and I sent what I had originally intended to send. Minus the blood sample & bra size LOL :-X All of you have been really great, thanks for the info xx

You are not alone in this process.  I too am waiting (not so patiently) to get my visa stamped in my passport.  I sent it to the consulate on August 1st and just dying to get my passport back in my hands.  Although what Garry mentioned about the low refusal rate in America is encouraging, I am still very nervous.  Luckily, I'm a US citizen with a fantastic job offer and good finances (although online e-statements were all I could provide in short time), so I hope that lowers my chances of a refusal.

If they have questions, they will ring you.  Honestly, you're freaking out over nothing.  You'll get your visa.  You have cut it close though with flying out Wednesday.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

They'll tell you if they need them and if they accept faxes.  Really, it's not worth worrying over now.  You can't change the outcome and all this worrying isn't doing you any good.

I really wouldn't worry. My husband and I both depleted our bank accounts before we applied for our visa so we didn't give them any of our statements. Instead, we sent in bank statements from his father along with a letter stating that he'd help support us if we needed it. I'm sure you'll be fine! :)
