Would me and my husband qualify for a child tax credit and if so how much could we save or earn? We have 3 children and he's the EU citizen but I am seriously debating becoming a swedish citizen also. Again with figures using for example 14,000£ or so...(for me) he'd probably earn more.
Yes, you'd be eligible for Child Tax Credit. Trying to find out how much, however, is not really possible until you apply as it is entirely means-tested/dependent on your entire income as a family. It also depends on if both of you are working and if you have your children in childcare - you get more if you both work and your child is cared for by a registered childminder, but again this depends on how much childcare you use, for ex., school aged children don't get you as much CTC b/c they are in school most of the day, etc. If you don't have childcare expenses, and your kids are nursery or school age, don't count on seeing a lot of CTC.
It also decreases as your earnings increase. Working Tax Credit tops out at about £14,000/family so that's out if you earn more than that.
TBH we've had a LOT of problems w/tax credits, are currently in an appeals process, and I wouldn't count on any income generated from them as a guarantee to move over from another country. They can also take months to sort out AND you'll need to have your EU citizenship to claim them as well, as you need to have no restrictions on your stay in the UK in order to eligible for them at all.
