Fruit and Veg Seasons
« on: August 19, 2005, 01:08:10 PM »
Hi all, I've been thinking a lot about how it seems that we always have most fruit and veg in the markets, however a lot of times the stuff is bland and tasteless. (I watched that show a few weeks ago, can't remember the name) So I was doing a little research and found this:

It does not seem to be complete, so I am hoping that other people might now a more complete list.

I'd love a really complete list like that too - preferably one with a "print view" so I could print it out and stick it by the computer to use when I'm shopping.

I'm re-reading French Women Don't Get Fat and it really hammers home seasonal eating and also variety. I know I/we really get stuck in ruts and that's no way to ensure you're getting all the nutrients you need.

Can't help with a list, but recall reading some time ago that if we went back in time 100 years we would be hard pressed to eat most of the food as it would be too rich in taste.

Indeed!!!  ;D It's really good. I mean, it's nothing particularly revolutionary and it's pretty common-sense based, but I think she makes really good points. And watching European women eat (or reading about it) is REALLY eye-opening - it couldn't be any different from the American approach and is even quite different from the Brits too....
