Bread Makers

So, does anyone have a bread maker?  Any recipes or one they recommend?

We have a Panasonic SD-253 and LOVE it.  We got it after it was the most recommended on several sites we'd visited.  It's £76 w/delivery from amazon.co.uk and worth every penny! I've got a raisin bread in there now, and tonight we'll set the timer for our usual half white/half wholemeal loaf.

Another good friend has had the same model for over 2 years now and it's still going strong.

We do a loaf every other day - sometimes, tho, we do rolls, pizza dough and cakes in addition to loaves.  The machine comes w/an excellent recipe loaf.  It makes a fab gingerbread loaf!  Mmmm.

We haven't bought a store bought loaf since we got it.

Expat- do you put all the individual items in the machine or do you buy mixes?

I am very keen to get a breadmaker- especially with a gluten/yeast prob thing going on. I have always wanted one, but never got one as I knew I would eat nothing else having that wonderful smell in my house ;)

We started w/mixes, but now mostly do our own.  I do keep some Carr's mixes to hand - Lakeland sells them - in case we run out of an ingredient, but otherwise it's very, very simple just to tip the ingredients in and it does all the work.  We almost always make a large loaf.

Oh that's cool, I have high hopes of one, I think they're worth every penny of the price.

It's dead easy.  You just bung the stuff in, turn it on and go.  Mixes are good in a pinch, but if you're doing lots of bread it pays to invest in some strong white or wholemeal flour (or both!), a canister of yeast, and a canister of milk powder.  That's really all you need besides water, butter and a little sugar and salt.

I like being able to control the sugar levels in our bread and also knowing it's preservative free.

There are lots of gluten free flours out there as well.

I had a bread machine in England and when my girlfriend here in the US offered me hers because she couldn't bother, I jumped on it.

They are sooooo easy.  Just follow the recipe, add the ingredients in the order that they are listed, push a button or two and in a few hours, you have a nice loaf of bread.  It does all of the mixing, kneading and baking.

You can also use the dough setting and then make your own specialty shapes if you like, or for pizza dough.

I love mine.

Well, I have ordered the mentioned model from Amazon and am looking forward to giving it a try.  Thanks for the help.

I miss my bread maker!  But I can't bring myself to buy another one.  Especially as I am trying to cut out bread ;)

I am a carb junkie.  I really bought one to make bread for my family, I am sure I will resist the fresh smell and taste of bread ;)

We got one for our wedding and I love it!!! I haven't used it lately 'cause for some reason it sort of seems like a winter thing to me. But looking out the window now, it appears that bread making weather is back.... I'm both happy and sad about that.

Exactly!

Oh, recipes.  Hmmm.  I think I just followed the ones that came with the maker.  Sometimes I added seeds and such.  It's just so good!

My first loaf of bread went really well.  The fresh bread is so tasty and excellent with butter.
