Does anyone know if Whole wheat or whole grain tortillas are available in the UK, if so where have you found them?

I miss them as well!  As a substitute I have been using chapattis.

I've seen them in Safeways in the bread section.

ditto! and the Indian lady behind the counter was telling me how easy they are to make  .explained to me  how to make them.. .which made us  laugh because we didn't think that  was 'good business' for her.. but she was  sweet and  I like going to her store..  ;D

I even bake the chipattis in the oven to make crisps.  Our daughter Aillidh loves dips, so I make chipatti/tortilla crisps for her to dunk in humus, white bean dip, guacamole, etc.

Here's my grandmother's chapati recipe, if anyone is interested. I've never made them myself, but my mother used to:

Chapati

3 cups wholewheat flour
1 1/2 tsps. salt
3 tsps. vegetable oil
1 cup warm water

Sift flour and salt. Add oil and mix thoroughly. Pour water into a well in the middle and mix to a firm dough. Knead for at least 10 minutes until smooth and springy. Put in a plastic bag (or cover with cling film) and let rest 1 hour.

Divide into 8 pieces and roll each into a 5-6" circle. Heat a griddle or skillet to medium. Cook chapatis 4-5 minutes each, turning once.

After turning, press down lightly with a folded teatowel all over.

If you want crisper chapatis, finish them off under the grill for 1 minute.

I am going to give this a try, thanks for posting.

Well, I tried the chapatis recipe.  Are they suppose to be thick, thin, crunchy or soft.  I think I need a little help.

they're meant to be soft and thick-ish... you might want to roll them thinner if you are using them as tortillas.
