Weight Watcher's and Low Cal foods in Supermart
« on: October 04, 2003, 05:13:17 PM »
I am totally baffled as to why there is such a crappy selection of Weight Watcher brand (and other low cal, premade) foods in the supermarts here in the UK.  The WW program is very big over here but they don't have much of a selection of frozen foods to choose from.  Whenever my weight would creep out of my safe zone, I'd buy a few of the prepacked WW or Lean Cuisine meals and get right back on track.  I also can't find PopSecret Lite popcorn or it's equivilent here.  I've looked up WW/UK online to see what they have but it's very minimal.  You'd think there'd be a big market for that kind of food here.

I MISS MY CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE DOUGH SUNDAE (only 4 points and I ate that even if not trying to lose weight)!!! [smiley=cry2.gif]

Life should NOT be a journey to the
grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well
preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand,
wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and
screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

There definitely isn't as much on offer here, runner, that's true.  But there is a 'healthy range' of food at most largers stores.  Marks and Sparks has Count on Us, Tesco has the healthy Choice...and all of them have frozen ready meals.  This is a bit different than at home where name brands are the only way to go.  The store brands here are *much* better than the 'value' store brands back home.

M & S has great puddings and desserts, and some of the ready meals at Waitrose are *fantastic*.

If all else fails and I really want to see what is or isn't available in the UK, I go to any of the online shopping sites (ocado, Tesco, Asda...they all have home shopping services now) and do a search for Weight Watchers.  All the products available will pop up for you so at least you know they exist!  I have found in this country sometimes they just put things in really weird places and unless I knew to look for them, I would have never found 'em.

And on another subject...do you know if it is true that WW point in the US are different to points here?  I got a couple of WW cookbooks on my last trip to the US 'cause they have some of the 'favorites' I grew up with...but I'm never certain about the points.

I have heard the WW points system is different here, Rebecca, but I haven't actually gone to a meeting in the UK so don't know for sure.  I still follow the points system I learned in the US (and still have the points counter from there as well).  I did get a supermarket/food points book here though and from what I've read, it looks the same.

BTW, I have found more low cal foods over here after checking out your recommendations.  Sainsbury's has a better selection then I'd thought after I knew what to look for!
