Visitor Visa questions
« on: September 06, 2005, 10:11:50 PM »
Hello everyone,

I'm planning a short trip to Germany next month and while I'm there I'd like to go to London a few days, i just have 15 days free at work, so, i'd like to go 5 days to Germany and 5 days to London. In both cases I would stay with friends.
The thing is: 2 years ago i went to London to visit my boyfriend (now ex-boyfriend) and i was denied entry. They let me stayed 5 days and then I had to come back to Mexico. So, if i want to go to London now, i need to apply for a visitor's visa.
I have around $3,800dlls for my trip, i wont be paying accomodation, the plane ticket costs around $800 dlls, so, do you think $3,000 will be enough? Do you think the british consulate will be satisfied with this amount?
I've asked my boss to write me a letter stating i have a permanent job and i've asked my friends (in Germany and London) to write support letters aswell, but I am worried about this money isnt enough and that my visa could be denied. that would be really bad news  :\\\'(
Any comment will be appreciated  :)

Unless there's something else to know about the situation where you were denied entry, I don't think you need to apply for a visa to visit London. It's two years later and the situation is entirely different.

I was denied entry last December. I planned on trying again in February and was advised that it might be best to apply for a visitors visa. However, I called a couple of visa service type places and they both told me to just go try my luck again. They said if I tried applying for a visa my application probably wouldn't even be looked at since Americans don't need visas to visit the UK. I got this advice even after explaining my situation. I flew back to the UK in February and was granted entry for 1 month. However, I was detained again because they needed to retrieve my records from the time I was denied entry.

I think if you were only denied entry because you were coming to visit your boyfriend (I'm assuming they thought you might not be leaving the UK) then you should be fine with what you have. Just make sure you have proof of the $3,000 you have available, have proof of your return ticket and have that letter from your employer. A letter from your friend inviting you to stay for 5 days will help too. Also, be prepared for the possibility of being detained...when you tell them why you were denied entry they may want to verify the reason.

Well, yes, i think I was denied entry because i was going to visit my boyfriend and I didnt have money enough with me, that was it.

The 2 ladies who were at the desk said I would need to apply for a visa if i wanted to go back again and I find a bit scary to go there without a visa, I really wouldn't like to go through the nightmare of being detained again, it was awful!

Thanks for the info  :)

If you were told you need to apply for a visa then you should apply for one, or at least contact your local British Cosulate for clarification.  Is that US$3800 for 5 days? That sounds like plenty.  You'll also need a return/onward ticket and the other things you have mentioned - employer's letter etc.

Yep, that's what I'll do, I was just worried that the people at the consulate wouldn't think that's enough money and they refuse my visa.
Now, I'll start getting all my paperwork together and start planning my holidays  ;D

Thanks a lot!
