« on: September 10, 2005, 08:54:40 PM »
Ok, I know about the TV license I got that straight but would like to know please, for a single person living in a flat what is approximately what I would pay monthly for gas ,water and electricty, anyone who lives alone can tell me this? for example? about the council tax, are there any flats that inlude this in the renting?

It's VERY rare to find a rental with council tax included because council tax is the responsibility of the person living in the property rather than the owner.... I wish I could answer your other questions, but I live in a 2 bed. house with my husband so our bills are probably higher than what you'll experience....

Utility bills here come quarterly, not monthly.  On average per quarter, I paid about £30 for water in London, £40 for electricity and £20 for gas, £33 for phone plus long distance.   I was exempt from council tax because I was a full time student living alone but otherwise, it would've been £120 a  month.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

My flat comes with council tax included, as well as the bills (including TV license). It seems that this is much more typical with smaller accommodation (i.e. a studio, a 1 bedroom).

Let's take our wigs off in the shopi aisle and fight it out.

My wife and I live in a very small flat in London (Islington) and just moved here three weeks ago. We pay 100 pounds a month in council taxes, about 20 pounds for phone, and our semi-annual water bill was 140 pounds for six months.  We havent received a gas bill yet.  Our electric bill is unusual: we have a pay-as-you go plan. Our electric meter has a little electronic gizmo that you top-up at newsagent stands. It had 15 pounds when we arrived in late August; as of this morning it still had 9 pounds remaining even after using power-hungry items like washer/dryer, fridge, computer, TV, water heater, vacuum, etc.!
