Seattle To Woking
« on: October 07, 2003, 09:54:03 PM »
Hi all,

I've been lurking here for a while as I wasn't really sure that my move back to the UK with my lovely Texan wife would ever happen. Well now it's been confirmed and we're both excited and scared in equal amounts about the whole thing!

I'm 35, Scottish and have been in the US for the last 5.5 years. I met my wife at a trade show before I relocated from Glasgow to Seattle. We started dating about 6 months after I moved and 2 years ago we were married. No kids yet, but we hope that will happen in due course  :)

I'm going to encourage my wife to post here as I am sure she will need support from time to time, from people who have gone through the UK move process. Heck, I'm even worried about the culture shock about coming back, so you might see more posts from me on that subject.

My lovely wife is 37, she's from Texas but has lived in many different parts of the US including California and Connecticut. She's amazingly brave to move to the UK, and she's looking forward to being close to my family.

That's enough from me for now. You'll see me post in the Moving Issues and Tax forums in the near future. We've got lots of things to work out in short space of time, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Paisley_Buddy

P.S. Staying anonymous for now, until I hand in my notice at my US job, paranoid I know  8)

Hi Paisley Buddy.  You take your time.  Patience is just one service offered here.  Actually I'm kidding.  It's great to meet you.  Please do bring your wife here as well.  Meeting new people is what its all about.  Everyone brings a unique perspective or experience that adds to the mix.  Welcome.

Hi Paisley--

I am from Cle Elum (an hours drive east on I-90 from Seattle).  Lived in Scotland for a little over a year, and returned home for a few months...but now I am in the middle of packing my bags to return to Edinburgh on a permanate basis.  I fly out of SeaTac this coming Monday!!

I was just at the Scottish store near Pike Place Mkt to cure my cravings for Hob-Nobs and Flake ;-)

There are a few other Texans on this board, so your wife will feel at home!  Enjoy the rest of your time in the great Pacific Northwest!!

Frances

Welcome PB and wife! I'm just down the road from you in Fleet. We go to Woking often as my father-in-law lives there. I'm from Texas too.........so you definitely have country folks down the road from you (when you arrive).

Again, welcome!

Thanks so much for all the welcoming posts!  We are starting the process of getting ready for the move.  I'm very nervous but know that we will be happy once we get there.

I'm glad to have this forum to bring questions.

All My Best!

Hello

I am Californian but have been living in Glasgow for 11 years now...)I used to be on a Paisley based radio station - Q96 - ever hear it?) :)

Anyhow I am thinking of trying to get a weekend break up Seattle to see an old best friend from High School who now resides there. I plan to be in the Bay Area for the holidays. It's my first holiday back home since I can't remember when! It's exciting.

Congrats to you and your wife...I married a Glasgow based guy and that's how I ended up here. I can't honestly say I recommend it (marrying and moving halfway round the world) but I adjusted (finally) and have no real regrets...and hey, even when the marriage ended, I stayed. So I must like it huh???

Like so many of us can report it's a big adjustment and not for everyone...but hopefully you'll both adjust/re-adjust just fine.

Best to you Mr Paisley,...
