I think for the most part, most people are just jealous of the fact that you are  moving to Scotland.  And wish they had the guts to do the same thing.
Oddly enough I havn't had one person (aside from my rabidly Rebulican brothers) say they think life is better in the States or that it's the best place to live.   For most The Grass is always Greener somewhere else, esp. romantic Scotland/Ireland/England/etc....
Only Time will tell.. it's just too bad she's a closed mouth B**!!!

What's funny is that once you're here you might get the same comments from the locals!

I get  many "why are you living here when you could be in the states...wish I could move there" comments once people realize where I am originally from.

I've gotten that MANY times too. I hate having to explain myself!
Plans on hold 'cuz Brexit

i just got back from a visit to my fiance and his family kept telling me how surprised they are that we decided i move there instead of his moving here, when we could live in the US.  There are loads of reasons why we would want to live there but no one seems to get that.  I have thought of putting all those reasons on my voice mail to play everytime someone calls and just quit answering my phone as every conversation i have these days is exactly the same.

I've taken to answering 'Because I can' every time I'm asked why I'm moving to Scotland... ::)
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

I usually got when I said I was moving to London :

"Don't forget to go up the Eiffel Tower when you get there!"

But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

That was like when I lived in northern CA and the check out girl asked me where I had moved from. I told her Maine. She said, "isn't that right near Michigan?"

I shouldn't make fun of these people though as I wasn't the best partner to have for Trivial Pursuit (concerning geography or entertainment questions!)

Ha ha I love this topic and even though it is old it is still true.  I have heard these questions from hundreds of people?  I usually get the "Oh ooooook"  And yes I do think they are jealous.  I am not dieing folks just moving away, I maybe back I may not but I am not asking you to move or do anything to help me but I would like some support.

Ditto Ditto It does get tiresome. I vary my answers on how flippant I am feeling.

Its home.
Cuz the hills turn purple (well they do up here)
Cuz it stays so light in the summer
Cuz of the NHS (cuz we don't got one).
I'm wanted over there.
I got a grant to live here
I get an EU subsidy cuz I am a foreignor
and others

but I will now add Because I can. Thanks C.H.

Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

Ha ha I might start to use some of those.  I like to be more suspenseful

"I am doing it because I am running away from my problems"
"I always wanted an accent this is the fastes way to get one"
"The voices in me head are telling me to go far far away"
"I want to have my own Wizard of Oz story so I am calling Oz England"
"Because I just enjoy the tea and krumpets so very much"
and finall my favorite
"because I want to live in Buckingham Palace"

Print that list out about 20 times...each time the conversation is heading in the direction of you moving...STOP the conversation, open your bag, grab the list, hand it over and say "SHHH read this before you say ANYTHING else!  ;D"

Congrats on moving...be happy and don't let anyone get you down!

*takes a bow

Well I try to be as funny as possible, but sometimes it does really get to me.  I thought of another one I always get

"Aren't you gonna miss your parents and friends?"

I always want to say  "Who are they?"

Ha Ha but I don't, of course I am gonna miss them, and them me but this is a decision I am making for my life.  I haven't ever heard anyone say to a military person "Aren't you gonna miss this....." No they send them off with yellow ribbons (color might actually changed depending where you are) and cards and send care packages.  It's not like I can't email/telephone or send up smoke signals to let those people who really matter to me know that I love them.

I just thought the thread was funny because it is what I have been hearing since I told everyone I was moving.

Where did you say you was moving to? ...That's what I thought, smoke signals work from anywhere but here, too much wind and rain. I have heard through the grape vine (when I was in France, of course) that smoke signals have been succesful on occasions from southern England, but has never been confirmed officially.

Can any one confirm this? ;D
