Daft Hubby
« on: October 03, 2005, 07:08:09 PM »
I was recently told by hubby that a telemarketer from Olan Mills called and offered to take photos of baby for £30. Him being daft, he gives them his credit card number straight away. Well after lecturing him about not giving people his credit card number who call him,cuz obviously they can be anyone. I call them myself to see just what the heck he ordered. Because "he forgot".. Apparently he spent £30 on 3 photo sessions with baby as a newborn, and the other two within a year. But you only get ONE copy of the photo,no wallet size,no other sizes but only one picture, one size. That pissed me off a bit.  We also have to take the pictures soon after shes born (within a couple days) (or else it expires and we're out £30)  because he decided to order this 2 months ago!...he again "forgot he ordered it"
............... hes not allowed to order anything anymore without first consulting me ....

Has anyone done anything with this company in the UK before?

If you haven't had any photos taken, can't you cancel the order? As well, have they actually charged your card yet? It mightn't be too late.

I thought they couldn't charge your card till you received what was stated anyway?? has he signed anything has he received any info via mail that clearly states what he gets?? I thought they are suppose to put things in writting?? I think you can cancel it or tell them you will complain to the trading standards ...dunno

Definitely call them and cancel (tell them that you didn't sign anything therefore you are not obligated).  If for some reason it does appear on your credit card statement, call the CC again and ask to put in a dispute against the charges as you did not authorize it (especially since its not in writing, you should be fine).

I am sure your husband just got caught up in the moment since the baby is due very soon.... ;)

When he ordered it over the phone, they sent him a box with some paperwork,a small teddybear and a cheap little cardboard frame and apparently as soon as the box is opened you can't get a refund, which is crap because the box doesn't even say who its from! so obviously its going to be opened. I am soooo not happy with how they do that  :(

call trading standards and find out ..I'm pretty sure that you still have the right to refuse

I didn't realise that they had Olan Mills in the UK!  In the US, they're a pretty reputable photography company, but I can't vouch for the UK branch.  I'd call the credit card company and ask for a charge-back.
