It was just a question - not necessarily directed at the OP.

Why not make your own salsa, I do a mean pico de gallo, it's like a really chunky salsa, my hubby loves it! And it's so easy!!

Chop up, chunky-ish:
Tomatoes
Onions

Add:
Fresh or dried cilantro (coriander)
Salt
Fresh or pickled chile peppers (i.e., Old El Paso jalepanos or fresh green/red peppers from the produce section) to taste (optional)

Mix

et viola!

I do pretty much the same thing, but add a bit of green chili sauce...and a pinch of ground red pepper, and you should add a few drops of lemon juice.

Shala, if you're near a Costco then I'd recommend getting a membership there. They have their Kirkland Signature stuff and you'll find lots of American stuff. I found Krustiez pancake mix which made me do a little dance in the aisle.

If you find it hard to find certain stuff then try www.cybercandy.com. They specialise in American foods in the UK. It's slightly more expensive but if you're feeling really hard up for your favorite foods, this is the way to go.

Also re: Costco, according to their website you can use their memberships internationally.  So anyone that has a US card can use it at their UK locations!

A waffle iron at Lakeland? WOW! I am thrilled! I always buy Bisquick at Asda...now I can make the dang waffles! They have a Lakeland Ltd at Bluewater mall in Kent, and in case anyone is close by there is also a sweets shop downstairs that has LOTS of American things in it: Lucky Charms, Oreos, Fruit Roll-Ups, Kool-Aid, lots of sodas like root beer, and American candy: hot tamales, charlston bars, red licorice, and TOO MANY MORE TO MENTION! It is expensive but it's nice to load up every few months, just for a taste home. Oh, and can I just say that those packaged waffles in the bread isle are disgusting??? My sweet Brit hubby was excited and surprised me with them and my son and I were so bummed that they were NOTHING like yummy "Eggos" in America!
One more thing; Asda has gorgeous yellow cheddar cheese slices - soooo yum! And lots of Betty Crocker stuff. Oh, and can anyone tell me what the answer is to the lame fridges here? If I turn it up then everything in the back freezes and if I turn it down, everything seems barely cold. Dang, I just want my coke can to frost up when I pop the lid!!!

If anyone is seriously concerned about the freshness of their eggs, there's a very simple way to check if it's okay.  Get a pot with water in it, put the egg in, if it floats, it's gone bad.  If it only stands on one end, it's okay as long as the end is touching the bottom, but I usually use those for baking fairly quickly.
If you don't know where you're going, it doesn't matter what road you take.

We've had our fridge for three years, it's the kind you have to defrost, and there's not a problem with the fridgy section. It stays the way it should. However, I have a problem with storing potatos!! I buy them, put them in dry storage, and days later, many of them have gone bad!! There's nothing grosser than reaching into a bag of potatos, and getting a soft, squishy, leaking one out!!
I had to throw away about six the last time I bought them! And it was not even a week later!!

EVERYTHING goes bad so fast in this country! Isn't it weird how the "best before" date is like 2 days later?!!! I wonder why that is! And bread goes moldy so fast too! And after reading your post I thought maybe my fridge is the kind I'm supposed to be defrosting too - I just don't do it! I know my freezer needs defrosting right now!
My fridge is only like a year old though - guess I'd better defrost it.
I DREAM of having a nice big American fridge one day! Still trying to talk my hubby in to it!

I thought about that too, but I'd be curious to check ingredients on these foods against foods in the US. I do think America is worse when it comes to fast food and junk food. The massive aisles in the Wal-Mart's are overwhelming!

If you want bread that lasts longer than 2 or 3 days, look for something called 'long-life' bread.  Just like the US -- full of yummy preservatives. [smiley=puke.gif]

Does putting the bread in the fridge help with the mold situation at all? I've recently started using some light bread over here. There are no preservatives, so it gets moldy rather quickly, too.
