Half Term Day Trip Ideas
« on: October 20, 2005, 07:02:03 AM »
Starting tomorrow my oldest is on half term break.  Does anyone have any ideas for day trips that I can take with the girls?  I'm thinking of doing things like taking them to London for the day, or maybe to Bournemouth or the Isle of Wight.
We live in Winchester so we are handy to the train station.  They are 4 and 2 -for the most part they are good travelers.
Any ideas?

Not sure how easy it is to get to by train from Winchester (probably change at Brighton)  but what about Hastings? Sea AND a castle.   Likewise, Portsmouth has HMS Nelson.

I have the same problem here. My two eldest sons are off starting Friday.

Im not sure how far you are willing to go but my kids love "Cadbury World" in Bournville (Birmingham). Check out their website. They do really nice tours and you end up walking out with lots of free candy bars!

Also the person on the top of the page is different each time you visit the site. If you keep refreshing the page you'll see my two sons with their father and aunt. They are from Iowa but I think they wrote "Idaho"    ::)

Thanks for the ideas!  I checked National Rail-looks like most trains to Hastings involve two transfers but there are a few that only require one transfer in Brighton.
We have been to Portsmouth and the girls enjoyed it.  The Spinnaker Tower is now open-but think I'll pass on taking the glass lift up as there has been problems with it.
Cadbury world sounds wonderful!  But our oldest is on a restricted diet so going there would not be best for her.  Not to mention my hips.   ;)

Whats with your sons and being famous? First your youngest is on Nickolodeon, and now your two others are on that site. Lets hope you don't turn into one of those showbiz mum's hehe ;)  :-*

Peebles is that the "ex husbeast"?
But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

He does look like one of those typical military men [smiley=puke.gif]

LOL. He must have gained a good 40lbs since the divorce AND the thinks he is so hot in that stupid cheap ass coat. Listen to this...two years ago when he was here to visit the kids he came with me to parents night. He wore that same stupid coat with a pair of levis that were too tight everywhere  [smiley=puke.gif] and when he sat down the jeans rode halfway up his calf and guess what? WHITE SOCKS!  :o :o :o  I was so embarrassed to think I was married to this fashion icon for ten years!

Hilarious about the quote by the way!! I wish I could forward this page to him!!!!!!!!!

Just an update...
Looks like the girls and I will be heading down to Portsmouth Friday.  Hastings sounds wonderful, but getting to Portsmouth from here does not require a transfer.
And I still can't get the page to open for the Cadbury World website!  >:(
Thanks again for the suggestions.

Don't forget to check websites for offers.  Also pick up a leaflet at the train station-alot of places have 2-1 deals if you show your train ticket.  London Zoo is a bit of a trek on the train/tube but it is do-able and a good day out.  :)
