I plan to move to the UK in mid-March 2006.  Addy has her rabbies shot 5/21/05, but the vet told me to wait a short while before testing her.  I totally forgot about getting it done, and now I can't get it done until this weekend due to my schedule.  But her paperwork isn't good until 6 months after her bloood is drawn until her rabbie vac expires, right?  If that's the case then she'll be okay to come over 7 April-21 May, about a month after I'm moving.

Am I understanding all this right?

that's correct.  From my understanding tho, you can take them with you but you will have to pay for them to be kenneled for the remaining time of their quarantine.

UPDATE:  NO BRISTOL FOR OCT> :(

So, as things would turn out, Bristol has not been approved as a route via Continental from Newark.  Lisa Schoppa, the head honcho, is actually taking a flight out to Bristol to deal face to face with them and seal the deal.  So don't expect anything until November or later (with emphasis on later)
Gatwick here I come.

Does anyone know--or has anyone actually done this?--if you can ship into the UK from the US via Air Canada?

We live much closer to Vancouver, where Air Canada has an approved PETS route, than we do to the nearest other approved route (San Francisco). It'd be *so* much easier to drive up to Vancouver with the dogs than to fly them down to SF and get on a Virgin flight there.

Any ideas?

Somehow I suspect the answer is no, you can't do this, but I thought I'd ask.

What about Frontline?

That is what our Vet has given us..I don't know if it follows the guidlines or not...but it is one of the major brands...

"The product used for the tapeworm treatment must contain praziquantel."

That's your answer.  They have a great printout you can print and take to your vet.

Some brand names for the praziquantel of Droncit and Miblemax.  You might need a two pronged attack with Frontline for the fleas and ticks and a de-wormer well for the worms.  Have your vet check his medical pharmacology book for US brands containing praziquantel.

My vet used only Frontline which was not enough so they animals had to stay for 24 hours in quarentine and we had to pay for a vet to come out and treat them with Droncit.

You should also deworm them once every three months or so when you get here especially if you plan on walking them near farm lands as worms are dangerous for livestock as well.

Um.. then you still need a dewormer. Revolution has  Selamectin listed as it's active ingredient....  while it might work on fleas, ticks and heartworm it does nothing for tape worm  .......

Seriously Lou... have your vet check for the active ingredient.  If it does not have it get it.

Have you printed out the flyer off of DEFRA for them?

Be sure to also CHECK THE DATES YOUR VET WRITES DOWN.  For some reason our vet put the date we were to arrive (19) rather than the date of tick and tapeworm treatment (17th).  This caused for delays in the US and the UK - but thank god I had the invoice with the date and the treatment on it!
best of luck
