Baked potatoes
« on: November 16, 2005, 01:47:03 PM »
Im making baked potatoes tonight with our chicken. Hubby always makes his jacket potatoes by just throwing them into the oven unwrapped. I know he likes the skin crunchy like that but I prefer my potatoes wrapped in foil. So my question is how long do I have to leave four large wrapped potatoes in the oven and for and what gas mark? I cant believe I cant remember this!

I usually leave mine in for a good hour (sometimes longer depending on size) at 350 (farenheit). You'll have to convert  ;D

I don't know gas marks, but I put mine in at 200C for about 1 hour 10 minutes. After I take them out, I let them sit for about 10 minutes or more. I like to err on the side of over cooked rather than under cooked.

hmmm...I have baked medium sized potatoes before and they took longer than an hour. But that was unwrapped I dont know if that makes a difference. I put them in about 30 min ago, wrapped and on gasmark 4. I think that is 350. These potatoes are really large though! OK. Ill check them in 90 min. Thanx!  [smiley=chef.gif]

What size potato is that? I actually prefer mine a bit overdone :)

Rich always puts them in the microwave first for 5 minutes then sprays with olive oil to make crispy.  Only takes about 1/2 hour to cook after that in the oven.

One hour at 400  or  1 1/4 hour  at 375.. if you wrap them in aluminum.. the skin won't be crunchy..

I will do medium potatoes - a little smaller than my hand - for one hour at about 350F.  I poke them with a fork and rub them with olive oil, then put them right on the oven shelf.
