Problem with cat
« on: November 24, 2005, 06:59:41 PM »
We have two cats, male and female. The male cat keeps jumping into the babys moses basket and also her pram. We've tried tossing him outside in the cold each time he does it,we've tried getting a cat bed,and we've tried putting a sheet over the basket or pram whenever babys not inside it but nothing works! The female cat doesn't do this and is acting very motherly towards the baby so I'm guessing the male cat is jealous and jumps into them to get attention. Does anyone have any ideas to how to stop him from doing this??? , he doesn't do it when the babys in it,he doesn't even get close to the baby so he doesn't hurt her or anything

Get a spray bottle and fill it with water -- give him a spray each time he jumps in somewhere you don't want him to.  My good friend has 2 cats and every time they misbehave, she does this, which she has found pretty effective.

No problem!  Cats hate water  ;D  My friend used a Super Soaker at one point, but she left it on the kitchen counter, and the cats sabotaged it by knocking it to the floor and breaking it!  Clever wee devils  :)

If just plain water doesn't work, add a few drops of white vinegar to it.  They really don't like that.  ;D

You could also try putting a sheet of aluminum foil inside of it when the baby isn't in it. Cats don't like the feel of it under their paws and will probably be scared when he jumps in and hears the sound it makes too. This way, even if you aren't around, it should still help keep him out.

Balloons.  Buy a packet of them and keep a few blown-up ones in the basket, pram, etc.  They worked great for our cats.  Just be prepared for a couple burst ones the first few days.  Good luck!

We never had a problem with our cats getting into the baby's beds and prams, but the spray bottle and aluminum foil worked for us when it came to keeping them off of the furniture.  I also tried double-sided tape or packing tape rolled so that it was sticky on both sides on furniture, which they hated because it stuck to their paws!

*aside* the sticky tape trick is funny though!
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

We've had sticky tape on our coffee table for the past couple of days. It's the one thing I won't allow the cats to jump on and they keep doing it no matter how many times we squirt them with the water bottle they won't stop. We have a giant roll of tape from a hardware that's about 2 feet wide. So I put that down on the coffee table. So far I've only seen them jump on it once and they did NOT like it! I'm hoping if I leave that on for a few days they won't jump on it anymore. lol
