Greek Islands

Any of you have suggestions about vacationing in Greece?  We are going for our honeymoon next fall.  Santorini is one choice, but we want to visit two or three islands.  :)

I've only been to Crete... it was fab!
We went in September, so it was that bit quieter and that bit cooler... but the sea still felt like bath water!  Lovely.
And the food was brilliant... big plates of the reddest, ripest tomatoes you've ever seen , with feta cheese and olives,  and super-fresh fish.

Dont know if it's still the same (it was about 10 years ago when we went), but the beer is SO cheap too!   I seem to remember it being something like the equivalent of  50p a pint?  :)

We recently took a cruise of the Greek Islands that included Santorini, Mykonos, Olympia (home of the Olympic games) and Rhodes (Acropolis). All of them were awesome. Only downside was we were only at the islands one day each- I could have spent days in Santorini alone!!! Enjoy!!!

After talking to my greek friend, we decided to do Crete for ten days in September.  Two islands in ten days is a bit of a waste, considering all the travel time.  And maybe spend one day in Athens.  Im daydreaming about feta cheese and olives and beer!!! :P

You gotta try the Ouzo while out there, it's kinda like drinking the spring water in Bath - absolutely disgusting but you can't go without trying.
We had some on a boat cruise with French and Spanish folk and we had a great time - make sure you dillute it with a LOT of water.

On Crete, in the restaurants they will usually offer you a free after-dinner drink (or at least they did this yonks ago when i was there...).  You get a choice of ouzo, which is the aniseed-tasting spirit Matt describes above;  or retsina, which is wine that has pine resin in it!  Both are very odd tastes initially, but they grow on you!  ;)

We spent a week of our honeymoon in Santorini.  I loved it there!  Absolutely gorgeous!  I had hoped to go back for our 5 year anniversary but I was pregnant so we didn't go.  Maybe next year since we will be a lot closer.
