Help Please?!? =)
« on: December 12, 2005, 02:59:16 PM »
I was reffered to you guys. I am hoping you have ideas. I sincerely appreciate them!

I am an
American female who will be taking one course while in London. I can't get a visa because the course is only considered part time schooling. Although I of course need to be working to afford living arrangements and some food. I am sincerely interested in any advice you could possibly have for me.

I hope to be hearing from you guys shortly,
Happy Holidays!

Sincerely,
Kay

I think it would be helpful if you could provide a bit more info. How long are you planning to be here? Are you considering a work visa since you can't get a student visa? More info that better.

Good luck

If you are a current student or recent graduate, have you checked to see if you qualify for the BUNAC scheme?  Your school should have details.

I need some kind of visa to work but I don't think I can apply for a regular work visa because I dont have any outlandish special skills. Just personal assistant and retail experience. I want to atleast stay for as long as my course is (6 months) but I need to be able to have a roof over my head and atleast bread to eat, lol. So I need help , ideas are very much welcome. The course I am taking doesnt count as their school course because anyone is eligible. I want to take it to see if thats the school i wish to further my education in because it is taught by students and the professers that teach in the school. Thanks so much for asking the questions, I forgot to provide you with that information. =)

Thanks so much!

hope to hear from you soon!

p.s. i am not currently enrolled in a fulltime school and am not a graduate

Well, one has to ask:  Do you know anyone in London?   Or alternatively, what is course you want to take?   Not really enough info in your posts to make the penny drop yet.

It sounds as though you have been told that you can do this course on a visit visa: in which case, you cannot work legally, and I can think of no visa which would allow you to do so while taking a part time course.

Sorry.

i'm not an expert, but i would definately pursue the work visa angle. perhaps you could look into retail where there are uk and us shops (e.g. gap or urban outfitters?)

it's also worth talking to someone from your school - certainly you are not the only person who has had this problem

You would not be able to get a work visa for a retail position unless it is going to be a transfer and either at mangerial level or a training scheme.

A TWES might be possible for a work/study combination, but the OP hasn't given enough detail as to whether this is the case or not.

I have applied for the gap a few months ago but they said I need to have bene an employee of their for atleast a year before applying for an international position I had also applied with Claires Accessaries and it was the same deal.

I was reading some information on the twes. Doesn't that have to be filed by an employer? Do they have to pay the fees? I was also reading if studying in the uk or work training it says you atleast need 30 hours. as far as I know part time schooling is under 20 hours a week so how would this work out for me to be eligible? And is twes a work permit for training as in going to school type of training or training as in working with an employer and gaining knowledge of their company?

Hope to hear from you soon!

A TWES has to be applied for by an employer who has you on a work experience or training scheme, the bulk of which takes place in the work place.

Because you are on a part time course you could not get a student visa.

Could you take another course and would this give you the ability to work on a student visa?

I was told in order to get a student visa I need to be going to school 15 hours a day? Two courses would only be maybe 6 if that. I am really loss and even then I don't know if I qualify because it is indeed more like a vocational course than any other.
