IND follies
« on: November 08, 2003, 09:45:05 AM »
(Wasn't sure if this belonged in 'Grievances' or here, so I flipped a coin.)

I have no wish to offend anybody who's managed to snag their British citizenship in record time - less than a week in one case, apparently - but something is clearly wrong with the system when IND is processing recent applications before older and equally deserving ones. I applied in March and am still waiting, though my case is very straightforward.

Think about it this way: if you were standing in a queue to see a movie and management started ushering in people who'd arrived long after you had, you'd probably start getting pretty annoyed, wouldn't you? This is what a queue is all about. Unless it isn't a queue, but a large pile IND attacks in a random fashion.

Congratulations to anyone who's gotten lucky, but spare a thought for those of us who haven't.

sorry to hear of the rotten luck.  Perhaps you sent to a different office than those that received theirs quicker?  Have you contacted them to find out what the hold up is?

Hope it works out for you and do keep us posted!

Cheers, elle. I sent my application to Liverpool, where I thought they all went. I did contact IND about a month ago and was informed they were currently dealing with applications received in December, the subtext being I should wait my turn.

I filled out my application very neatly. Included all the relevant documents and details. I have a history here (moved to Britain in '95) and should be easy to check up on. It's a mystery to me. Even the IND website now claims an average processing time of just over 6 months. Oh, well. I'll post any success.

qwerty, your experience isn't making any sense. I just assumed I whizzed through because it was a no-brainer. Been here six years, married for almost that length of time, British husband...etc. Sounds like your app may have gotten burried. I'm sorry yours hasn't come through yet. Let us know when it does, okay?

It's possible that IND has an unofficial policy on fast-tracking applicants who married Brits, as opposed to those of us who applied by virtue of time served (so to speak). I originally came to Britain on a work visa. In the letter they sent me they wrote 'applications are considered broadly in order of receipt', so I guess it depends on one's definition of 'broad'...
