Child-proof medicine bottles
« on: January 02, 2006, 01:29:23 PM »
I picked up a prescription and the pills came in blister-packs within a box.  I was a little surprised that they weren't in a child-proof bottle, as that's what I'm used to in the U.S.  Do they not routinely put pills in child-proof bottles here?  Is this something that I can ask the chemist for?

It's not common, but I would try asking the chemist when I handed in my perscription.

I had a lock box for medicines when my kids were little.  I can't remember where we got it though.  Possilby Great Little Trading Company.

My two year old, Jackson opened a bottle of antibiotics with a child proof lid.  The lid was on correctly, it was suprising.

Just ask for one next time you are at the chemist.  They do have them they are just lazy about putting the pills in them.

we had a big one for cleaning products that we still use, but I can't remember what happened to the medicine one. ???  It was useful though.

those 'medicine boxes' were WAY too small for our needs - better living thru chemistry.  so i bought two plastic storage boxes from £stretcher w/lids you can put small padlocks on - one for meds and one for toiletries we don't often use.  they are stored in our hall cupboard and the keys on a peg high up just to the right of the door.

Thanks for the ideas!  I think I'll try asking for a bottle from the chemist the next time I pick up my prescription.  I'm hesitant about locking the bottle in the box, because this prescription is one that I have to take every day, and I like to keep it where I can see it and remember it.  But that lock box or a box with a padlock on it is a great idea for medicines that we only take occasionally!

how about keeping it on top of the fridge or a high shelf as well?

i'm paranoid about this sort of thing myself.
