Reopening a Bank Account
« on: January 02, 2006, 08:36:33 PM »
I had a current account with the Bank of Scotland when I lived there, and just before I moved back to Canada I closed it down.

Now I am returning to Scotland and will need a bank account again.  Will it make it easier for me to get a bank account if I used to have an account with them?  I read about the great difficulties people have opening accounts, so I didn't know if this would help me in this instance.

I kept my bank statements as well; should I bring those with me to the UK to show the bank if I go to try to open an account?

Also, did having an account previously give me any kind of credit rating in the UK?  Because I may want to get a credit card at some point and maybe I have built a little bit of credit already.

Thanks!

Hiya!

I'd say they'd be the definite first point of call in this situation! I can't say for sure that it'll make things 'easier' but maybe others who have been in this situation previously can advise! my bet is that you should find it easier!

Good luck and welcome back to Blighty !

Hi Froggie... too bad you didnt keep that account going, even if it only had a few pence in it!
I dont think that being a 'former' customer is going to help you much... you're still going to have to provide proof of id (your passport, so no problem there) and proof of address.... that's the one that causes bother for most people, but if you've got it, then you should be able to open a bank account!  :)
