Mexican Flavoured Cheese Find and Moneterey Jack
« on: January 03, 2006, 10:47:25 PM »
Found it at Sainsburys on their cheese counter £6 per kilo. This might be old news but it was new news to me! Oh and I noticed it's made in Wales.

We buy it at Tesco. Just have to ask for it at the counter and tell them how much you want.

We shop at both Tesco and ASDA every week so it might be ASDA but my husband and I both think it's Tesco. We both have bad memories too though, lol.

I found it at ASDA and it wasn't very expensive..Got a huge chunk for about £2-3 quid..Think it was about half a pound?

It tasted nice and DH loved it..He asks for it all the time now; I like it in quesadillas. :)

They have it at our Sainsbury's, but they told me that they only get it in every once in a while.  They get a few wheels in every few months.  It doesn't seem to go very fast, though.  I must be the only one who buys it!  It doesn't taste exactly like the Monterey Jack that I'd get in the U.S., but I think it has a nice flavor.

Well, I have been using mild cheddar for all my mexican dishes...just doesn't taste or melt the same...so even if it doesn't taste exactly the same it is ok as long as it is the right "texture."  :)

I have used the Sainsburys Monterey Jack cheese in Enchiladas when I make homemade corn tortillas, it melts wonderfully and has a nice flavor.

I dont like the Welsh Monterey Jack they sell in Tesco & Sainsburys... when i buy it, i buy mine in Lupe Pintos.  I dont know where theirs comes from, but it tastes much like the Californian stuff.

They didn't have any at Lupe Pintos the last time I was there.  I didn't know that they carried it!  I'll have to check it out the next time I'm there.

Just bought my first slab of this from Tesco two days ago. Had to get it at the deli counter. It tasted a little different but worked great in the beef enchiladas I made.

We went shopping tonight and the cheese we bought was from Tesco. But I see a couple other people have mentioned buying it there so I posted earlier anyway.

The one I bought is called Monterey Jack.  I don't know how often they have it though, I hadn't seen it there before.
