Alphabet pasta
« on: January 18, 2006, 12:13:02 PM »
I haven't seen this anywhere for ages. Anyone seen it? I don't meant the stuff in tomato sauce in tins, I mean the 'raw' pasta shapes for putting in soups etc.

I haven't seen it either, but a friend did bring me back a bag of it from Italy.  It was a De Cecco brand.

Are you talking about the tiny ones, like what you'd get in Cambell's Alphabet soup?

I've also been looking for these..As well as 'raw' pasta stars. They are both mentioned in my Annabel Karmel cookbook. But no mention of where they can be found?? ;)

I have only found them in Waitrose and in a local health food store... I stock up on them in Spain.... little alphabets, stars, and little tiny balls (we call them fish eggs).......strange how close we are to Italy and Spain and something so popular is hard to find...

Let me know if you find a source.

there is nothing like pastina, boiled in a bit of water so it fluffs like couscous, then adding a bit of melted butter and an egg. (stiring constantly so it cooks in the last minute in little fluffy strings).  add a touch of salt and presto.

OMG..............i am missing my mommy's pastina now!

I just thought I'd mention in case anyone else is looking for it I found some alphabet pasta at Tesco. It's not the teeny weeny kind unfortunately, it's quite chunky, but it does look like it's good quality.  The brand is Organic Pasta Pals and it was 99p for a 500g bag.
