I had the patch for nearly 9 months while still in the US. It was super simple to use but my periods went from 2-3 days of very light bleeding to one solid week of terrible heavy bleeding with clots. Plus I porked right up, so I decided to switch.

I've been on the Depo shot since January, and I haven't had a period since April. And I love it!!! Haven't gained a jot of weight from it that I can tell, and I've had zero side effects that I've noticed other than no period.

My US doctor did warn me that it can take a few years for fertility to return, and that at my "advanced age" I might want to keep that in mind.   ;D

I don't have any money right now to get any pills, but i will eventually... so i havn't had my period in about a year.

Vicki, you might wanna check into www.smartwomanrx.com -- you can birth control for 1/3 of the normal price there (i.e. 3 months' worth for about $30).

I talked to my gyno about moving there and getting the mirena IUD. Anyone know if that's free too? Talk about simple - 5yrs and no pills, patches, rings or anything to remember! Plus, take it out and you can conceive fairly quickly. Anyway - just curious if it's free or how much it might run...thanks!

The Mirena IUD has been available in Europe for about 14 years and as far as I am aware would be free.  This product only became available for use in the US during recent years, which might explain why it is not quite so well known in America.

I'm using Mirena; it was free.
Insert wonderfully creative signature here …

Aimiloo- i have been on the patch here in the UK for 2 months now- I travel a lot- and the time difference etc were doing my head it.  The patch really simplifies the whole thing!
