Moving to Edinburgh - what neighborhoods should I look at???
« on: January 25, 2006, 05:23:14 PM »
Hi everyone...

Thanks so much for all the wonderful information I've found here!

My husband and I are moving to Edinburgh mid-February and I'm totally overwhelmed at looking for an apartment (flat??). What neighborhoods should we look at? He'll be working at the Unversity of Edinburgh, and we don't plan on getting a car, so somewhere with good public transportation or within walking distance would be perfect. It's so hard to figure out the neighborhoods!

Thanks so much for any help!
Gila

Hi!  My husband also works at the University of Edinburgh and we don't have a car.  We live in Stockbridge and he walks to work (about 20-30 minutes walk).  There are buses that go right from the end of our street to the campus, but he likes the walk.  We found Hadden Rankin to be very helpful when we were looking for flats while still in the US.  Didn't have much luck with other property management companies emailing us back.  Good luck with your search!  It was frustrating, but we ended up with a great place!

Hi,

I'd also like to recommend an additional letting agency - Albany Lettings - they've worked with us while we're still here in the US - they're brilliant, friendly and very helpful.  I've know a couple of folks who've been able to work with them while still here in the US (meaning they're able to secure flats for you and do all the paperwork for you, if necessary, while you're still here in the US).

Although we've made the decision to go to Glasgow instead of Edinburgh (more family closer to Glasgow rather than be with the 2 cousins in Edinburgh) - I've sorely missed being able to work with Albany (since they don't have an office in Glasgow)
