Ladies Only Fitness clubs??
« on: January 26, 2006, 02:37:08 AM »
I'm currently living in the mid western part of the states,  where these are gaining in popularity.  I'm moving  to the UK in  2 weeks.   Does anyone know of any in SW or Central London, they are really wonderful!

thanks!

I used to belong to an all-women health club here in the boonies of SW Wales. If we have them all the way out here, I think it's pretty much a guarantee that you'll find one in London.  :)

Yes, we have a gymophobics here in the Midlands too.  I've not gone though to really check it out.  Whether it is true or not, I've been told that you are sort of on a circuit there where you have 5 minutes on a machine, and then you move on to the next?  Sounds kind of comical to me.   ;D  The one here though looks very small, so maybe that is why.

God 5 minutes would seem like forever to me!  With Curves it's 30 seconds and you alternate between walking/running/whatvering in place on a pad with the various machines until the recording tells you to "change stations now".

Anyone know of anything similiar in Coventry?  we're moving soon and they don't have a Curves yet.

I just did a quick Google and found a chain called Fitness First for Women ... and there's one in Coventry! I'm not sure if it's anything like Curves or Gymophobics, but at least it's all women:

None near me, though. :(

What is the advantage of a ladies' club versus a coed one? I've only been to coed ones, so I'm curious now.

It's just personal preferences. For me, I've always preferred women-only clubs because it eliminates that element of overly made-up women who are there more to scope out the men than to work out.

Oh. You mean like 50% of the women at my gym. My husband and I always laugh at this phenomenon . . .There's this one girl in particular. I am really fascinated by her. Her hair and makeup are always perfect and I've never once seen her even close to perspiring. And yet, she's tiny, so I know she's doing something while she's at the gym. How do they do it?

LOL! I think they secretly exercise in the privacy of their own homes -- that way they can go and preen (without sweating) at the gym!

HA! That is the only logical explanation.
