Another Question!
« on: January 27, 2006, 06:51:57 PM »
Sorry about all this, but I have another question about leases in the UK.  My fiance went to his council, they said no problem, and I just received in the mail a letter from them stating that my fiance had lived at the address sinceOctober 1994.  BUT...here's my problem.  It says nothing about me living with him at that residence.  I spoke to him about it and he said they don't mind as long as he tells them when I arrive and am actually living there.  How will the British Consulate view this?  Would it be sufficient, would I be denied, do I need to start all over with this issue?  AGAIN, thank you for your help, I am sure if I had to call the consulate on every little worry, they would be so sick of me they might just give me the visa and send me to England!

When I first moved here my husband still lived with his mother. She has a council house. On the back of the lease it states the tenant can have other people living there as long as its not overcrowded. Their definition of overcrowding is when 2 people of the opposite sex who are not in a relationship have to sleep in the same room.

This isn't an actual lease, there is no real lease.  It's just a letter from council stating that he has lived there for twelve years.  It's actually from the Electoral Services Manager, whatever that is!

You really do need to geth the council to put in writing that it is okay for you to live there (assuming it does not already say on his tanancy agreement that he can have family living with him).

his children used to live with him, but don't anymore - would that mean that it's ok for me, or do they have to specifically use my name?

It depends on the wording of the lease.  If it has his name on it, and specifies 'and any members of his family' then yes, this would probably do.
