Did I then make a terrible mistake?  I had my English fiance send me his original passport to include in my packet of documents for my fiance visa.

I guess that depends a) if it made it to you okay b) if he suddenly needs it for some reason.

It used to be illegal to send your passport by post overseas, but I have done a little search and the only country I can find who still have this law is India.

Well, I thought that was an interesting point of useless information...
