Okay spill the legumes.....  ;D  

How is it different?  Are you basically doing still no fruit and carbs for the first two weeks?

I am so excited that you have lost the weight!

After losing 13.8 lbs I am kind of in a plateu stage right now and have started low/no carb today to see if I can kick start it.

I know I can't do low carb for life...but how much can you add back in after the first two weeks?

YES I am too sorry to go buy the book!  The last thing I need is another diet book!

Okay...I did not buy the book...I read a lot of it in Walmart!   :P  So I like it... I like the fact that it adds beans beans the magical fruit I like that you can eat fruit in the next two weeks and it really is just a modified WW type thing from that point on.  So...I started today with the exception of some carrots (which I ate prior to reading the book) and I have signed up online.  So here we go 115 or bust!  All you ladies wench and Marlespo et al have finally convinced me to give it another go.

This is the Palm Beach one you're doing? Please do give updates! This one sounds more my 'abitlity'. I LOVE fruit and beans.

Here are the things you can eat on the first two weeks.  Then you move to phase 2 where you add back in some fruits and complex carbs.

Foods to Enjoy

BEEF  Lean cuts, such as:

Eye of Round
Ground beef:
Extra Lean (96/4)
Lean (92/8)
Sirloin (90/10)
Tenderloin
Top Loin
Top Round

POULTRY (SKINLESS)
Cornish hen
Turkey bacon (2 slices per day)
Turkey and chicken breast

SEAFOOD

All types of fish and shellfish

Boiled ham

Tenderloin

Cutlet, leg
Top round

LAMB (Remove all visible fat)

Fat-free or low-fat only


MEAT SUBSTITUTES (SOY BASED)
Bacon - Limit to 2 slices per day
Burger - < 3 gms fat per 2-3 oz portion
Chicken Patties & Nuggets - < 3 gms fat per 2-3 oz portion
Hot Dogs - < 3 gms fat per 2-3 oz portion
Natural Peanut Butter - 2 TBS (may use as protein choice or limited nut choice)
Sausage Pattie - Limit 1 patty per day
Seiten
Soy Crumbles
Soy Nuts - 1/4 cup for a protein snack is suggested serving
Tempeh
Yuba (Bean Curd or Sheet)


CHEESE (FAT-FREE OR LOW-FAT)
American
Cheddar
Cottage cheese, 1-2% or fat-free
Cream cheese substitute, dairy-free
Feta
Mozzarella

(Laughing Cow is one he uses the skim version)

Peanut butter, 1 tsp

EGGS

The use of whole eggs is not limited unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Use egg whites and egg substitute as desired.

Use soft, low-fat or lite varieties

Mayonnaise - Regular or Low Fat

Olives (Green or Ripe) 15 = 1/2 TBS

Salad Dressing - Use those < 3 gms sugar per serving

All spices that contain no added sugar

I Can't Believe It's Not Butter! Spray

Salsa - Limit to 2 TBS during phase 1

Soy Sauce - 1/2 TBS

Whipped Topping (Light) - 2 TBS

Almonds - 15 (Dry roasted recommended)

Brazil Nuts - 4

Cashews - 15 (Dry roasted recommended)

Pecans - 15 (Dry roasted recommended)

Macadamia - 8 (Dry roasted recommended)

Peanut Butter, Natural = 2 TBS

Peanuts, 20 small (May use dry roasted or boiled)

Pine Nuts (Pignolia) - 1 ounce

Pistachios - 30 (Dry roasted recommended)

Walnuts - 15 (Dry roasted recommended)

In place of nuts, may use:

Flax Seed - 3 TBS



SWEET TREATS (Limit to 75 calories per day)

Candies, hard, sugar-free

Chocolate powder, no-added-sugar

Cocoa powder, baking type

Fudgsicles, sugar-free

Gelatin, sugar-free

Gum, sugar-free

Popsicles, sugar-free

Sugar substitute

Some Sugar Free Products may be made with sugar alcohols (isomalt, lactitol, mannitol, sorbitol or xylitol) and are permitted on the SBD. They may have associated side effects of GI distress (abdominal pain, diarrhea & gas) if consumed in excessive amounts.

I fogot to say....Ha ha I beat you to it KC!!  I posted the list!! :-*

It's long though so sorry Leah.  I like the whole thing a lot better than Atkins.  This guy is a cardiologist and it makes sense that high fat is bad as is high carbs.  He started the whole thing not for weight loss, but for insulin and heart reasons.  They have a lot of info on him and it on WebMD.

By the way KC my hubby is the same.  He would never say a bad thing about me being overweight except that I should excersize to be healthy.  BUT now that I have started to lose some he notices it and says nice things about how nice I am looking again.  


I also had to modify this to add that there is desert.  Part skim or skim ricotta cheese with Splenda and some vanilla...yum!  I can get recipes if anyone wants them.  

Day two is over and I am feeling great --though I am drinking so much water the bathroom and I are friends!
Here is the list of things to avoid the first two weeks.

Yogurt, cup-style and frozen

Ice cream

Milk, low-fat, fat-free, whole

Milk, soy



MISCELLANEOUS

Alcohol of any kind, including beer and wine

No regular ketchup or cocktail sauce

No pork rinds - too high in saturated fat

No jerky - too high in sugar content

Limit Caffeine-Containing Beverages to 1-2 servings per day

Member Question: Dr. Agatston, what is your take on using a non-dairy creamer for coffee? I just can't stand my coffee with anything but that in it. I've been using it since starting on SBD, and it hasn't seemed to affect my weight loss or cravings. (29 pounds in 2 months.)

Dr. Agatston: As long as it doesn't have trans fats, it should be fine. Some non-dairy creamers have low sugar amounts, but if a splash isn't triggering your cravings, then it is absolutely fine to use. One product we recommend with no trans fats is Land-o-Lakes gourmet fat free half-and-half, which also contains a little calcium.

NP Saf.... I will post the things you can add in Stage II.. a bit later.  I love this.  I feel great.  Things is though as with anything.. it depends on how your body reacts to it.  Also...some people do not lose as much weight, but then they usually eat a lot of food.  Even though there are no portions of lean meat and veg...you still can't eat a whole cow.

I started this week and so far so good. I was only really hungry the first day.  I have enjoyed most of the recipies so far. Sigh, another 11 days to go til Phase II. :)

Going just fine..helped me lose a few. Personally I am back to doing WW.  Probably has something to do with that bread maker I got! ::)

Also went to the National Body Challange thing at the Discovery store and they sent me this diet profile.  I am only supposed to consume 1,100=1,200 calories.  So in other words...it's still all the same.  Don't eat crap.  WW is better for me as a lifestyle because I love good food.  So anything that makes me feel I can't eat is not going to work.  What does work is eating a ton of veggies and fruit watching the simple carbs and just eating less crap.  

I think South Beach is good in that it is a good jump start and also teaches you about Glycemic Index and bad carbs.  Let's face it none of us need tons of potato chips!  But if you eat a half a potato there is no need to go nuts...just slap some fat on it and don't do it too often.  

In the end it's finding the right life choices for you.  Mine is to eat less and better quality.

I started phase I on MOnday and have lost 5 lbs! [smiley=shifty.gif].  I KNOW it's mostly waterweight but i needed to see the scale going down for once to feel better about myself!

I really like it although i'm sick of phase I already.  Haven't delved into seafood yet so that's my think tonight.

It's a lot of cooking and pre-packing my foods.  It's worth it though!

I lost 40 lbs on WW years ago and have kept it off. Except i got engaged and gained 10 lbs...whoops comfort zone!  SO this is helping me to get back down and look hot for the wedding...although DF already says i'm hot.  :P

It's worth a shot, and i read the book.
