Reassurance, please?
« on: February 23, 2006, 04:26:39 AM »
Hello! This is my first post here. I was wondering if I could get some reassurance.

I'm a US citizen and I just got engaged to my boyfriend, a UK citizen. We plan on getting married in the US, and then moving to the UK as soon as possible afterwards.

My question is about the visa process - I was told by the customer service people at the British Embassy and also by US Immigration (I called up those expensive hotlines!) that in order to do this, my fiance should come to the US as a visitor to get married - no fiance visa necessary- and after we get married, I should then file for a spousal settlement visa with the British Embassy.

So... is that it? Apologies if this seems like a stupid question, but it just feels a little *too* easy, if you know what I mean... especially after reading up on what some people have to go through to get fiance visas!

I'd just like to be reassured by some people who have gone through the same situation, hopefully before I put down a deposit for a reception hall for the wedding!

Thanks in advance for your input. I have a feeling I'm going to be spending a lot of time here!

There are quite a few people on the board who did exactly that---so yes if you want to marry in the US and live in the UK it is that easy! :-)

hahahaha...sounds easy, but it is a lot of work to get the papers together!  It'll be easier though because you'll have your husband with you when you apply!

Congrats and good luck!

P.S. Check out britainusa.com! You'll want to get everything he needs in order before he comes to marry you.  :)
