In honor of Mardi Gras
« on: February 28, 2006, 09:14:02 AM »
Okay... since a party at BarbaraG's I have become a gumbo and cajun food fiend.  I'd like for all you lovely lads and lasses out there to give me some "oh it's so good" it could rival Justin Wilson's cooking recipes.   ;D  Cross posting in the cookbook would make me even happier!

I leave the cajun cooking to people who can do it real justice...but just thinking about Hurricanes and King Cake is making my mouth water and it's not even 10am  yet!!

Does anyone know if New Orleans was able to host Mardi Gras this year?  I know Bourbon Street wasn't hit that hard, but what about the rest of the city?

yep...read an article this morning about it.  there are people there.....but not even half of what they normally experience.  the article said that it quite easy to walk directly down the middle of bourbon street this year....where in previous years it's a pain just to get across the street.

there was mention of some of the restaurants....apparently there are normally close to 1800 or so restaurants (in past years), but only a little under 600 are currently open.

I heard the partying on the news this am, sounded like they were having a blast, it really was great to hear!

I read somewhere that were about half as many people at Mardi Gras as usual. But still ... that's a lot more than I thought there'd be! :D

Edited to add that I also read that some people are saying it's inappropriate to have a big celebration and party when so many are still without their homes, families, etc.

They've been showing the floats and parade and all on Fox. Pretty sarcastic some of the messages on them, but really can't blame the people for being that way.
