Registration as a British Citizen

has anyone else done this?

under the 2002 Nationality etc. law, i understand that due to my mother being born in Britain (i was born in the US) allows me to register as a British citizen (for certain persons born between 1961 and 1982).

has anyone else undergone this process?

i called the British Embassy in Washington, DC and they said I qualify and are sending me the appropriate forms. 

any tips, pointers?

I did it...easy peasy! 
just fill out the app, send the documentation they ask for (I think I sent my passport, my mother's expired British passport, my birth certificate[?] and her LONG form birth certificate), make sure you pay their fee, and presto, you're a British citizen!  It took me about 4 months start to finish, but I've heard of others that received their registrations sooner, and some that took longer.  Once you receive your certificate of registration, you can apply for a UK passport.

i am looking into getting uk citizenship (passport etc..)
do you have to do the citizenship test as well as send the application off?
how does it work?

No, if you're registering because of your British mother you don't have to take the test.

It took my hubby about 6 weeks, I think?  And then we went to the consulate so he could take his oath, and he got a certificate, and then he got his passport.  Very simple.
