cravings
« on: March 01, 2006, 05:29:38 PM »
I just suddenly had a craving for anything loaded with blueberries..and earlier is was starburst ;) Probably because I am going grocery shopping later...but it reminded me that my fiance said he just doesnt get it why people have cravings....he says he never does...must be nice ;)

I am also really wanting a tuna sandwich...not just any kind, it has to be in sunflower oil...thanks to df ;) OOh and salt and vinegar chips to go with it....mmmm :) And to think I was disgusted by those before meeting David...he told me to try one and if I didnt like it fair enough..so I tried one..yuck..tried another (different brand as well) and then another..and another...then I was hooked ;)

So what exactly is it that causes a craving? is it the memory of the food, the taste etc?

Im glad I AM having cravings..cause normally stressed out I wont eat much..this is a good sign!

Cravings can be caused by your body telling you that you are lacking in a certain nutrient or vitamin.  For example, I don't eat red meat, and every now and then get a craving for it, which is my body's way of telling me I am running low of iron!

If you have a blueberry craving, you could be running low on vitamin c.

On the other hand, I have a Ben & Jerry's craving every time I open my freezer, so maybe the scientific excuse isn't the only one.....

hahaha no..i dont think so anyway ;) Sounds like it though doesnt it? ;)

Hmmm ya know vitamin deficiency could be a factor..I havent been eating so great recently...good thing you pointed that out.

I agree there are some cravings though that seem to have no scientific factor ;)

I often crave things just when I am sitting in front of the tv and see it being made or eaten by someone.

I agree about the vitamin deficiency though, this also happens a lot to me as well!

I always have this craving  ;D

There's definitely a nutritional component to many cravings. But, for me, I think a lot of it is the power of suggestion. Sometimes I'm not even aware that I've seen, for instance, someone on television eating a sandwich. It somehow works its way into my mind, though, and then I want a sandwich!

This only happens to me while pregnant!  It can be a commercial for something that I don't even like, like a cheeseburger, but my mouth will be watering.... ;D

I absolutely hate it when I have a craving, but can't satisfy it!! Like I want something, but can't figure out what it is!!
