A few ILR questions
« on: March 08, 2006, 10:57:28 AM »
Hi all, I know there have been a lot of questions about the ILR's and I have a couple myself.

Just wondering how long on average if you sent your passports in by post did it take to get them back?  A friend is doing her ILR now and called to ask the timing.  They said between 4 to 14 weeks :o  With that in mind Rich and I don't think we can do that.  Basically he travel a lot last minute for work and needs his passport at all times.  I need to renew soon. (I entered 4 June 2004) but of course as I am expecting baby 21 May this might be a problem for us going into the embassy.  So really at a loss as to what we should do here.

Did people only have 10 pieces of evidence?  I don't think we have a lot of post that has both our names on it, and I don't have envelopes for a lot of it, did I need to keep those as well?

Thank you

Are you applying from within the UK or outside the UK, and on what basis?

Stacey -- I don't know any of the answers to your questions, but I'm anxious to see how you and others come out with the ILR.  I know there are several of us who are due to get the ILR this year -- including me!  Yaye.  But my LLR doesn't expire until August, I think, so I'll be doing it a bit later.  I also have to work out the timing thing -- I think AnneR was posting about that somewhere...'cause I have to get the surname changed on my passport still and then get my ILR.  Good luck - hope that you and baby are well! :)

The 4-14 weeks answer is standard...that's what they told me when I called (this past August).  If you entered 4 June, you can apply as early as 7 May -- do you think you'd be alright to go over to Croydon then?

You'll need 10 pieces of evidence for each year you've been here (10 for 4 June 2004 - 4 June 2005 and 10 for 5 June 2005 to the date when you apply).  You don't need the envelopes and your evidence doesn't have to be things with both of your names on it...a combo of things addressed to you and things addressed to Rich will do.

Thank you Lola.
Well, not sure.  Do they have chairs in Croydon, or should I bring my own?  I really should not go, but with Rich always leaving last minute (Except he will not be doing that for awhile now, getting so close to baby's birth.  I have told him to tell work this)

They do have chairs, but be prepared for a long wait.

If you apply by post and you don't need your passport, you can send in a certified copy of your husbands instead of the original.

Really?  I thought that was only for the FLR, if so, I would rather do that for sure.  I don't need mine till September.

If they don't need to actually put a stamp in his passport, then they can do any application with a certified copy.

And the chairs (which are bolted to the floor) are quite hard. Think they are made of some type of metal, so they aren't very comfortable to sit in (an understatement, I might add). :o

Yikes!  I think I will send it in, since I can get Rich's passport pages copied.  Anyone know a good place to certified?

Any High Street solicitors can do it, but shop around to get the cheapest.

Got it, I'll do that.  Or get Rich to do it.  Thanks so much!

I know that waiting times vary but I applied in early May last year and got my passport and ILR back in mid June so it was about six weeks.

Best of luck!
